..I'm getting a 360 for Christmas and I was looking and it seems like there are as many useless accessories for it as there are for Wii. Are they all really useless? What is the minimum thing required to get XBox Live? I'll be starting out playing mostly regular XBox games such as Ninja Gaiden, Fable, Jade Empire, Knights of the Old Republic, and Halo 2.

All you need is to buy the pro. Comes with everything you need 60 GB harddrive, headset, and a wireless controller. Play and charge kit is a good accessory to use. The messenger kit is $20 and if you plan on messages or chatting a lot it's a good investment. To get on xbox live you need a gold subscription that'll cost $50 for 13 months or get a silver membership which is free but you can't play multiplayer games. To actually connect either get an Ethernet cord or the wireless adapter.

All that headset stuff...like I want to just maybe play a little online multiplayer and get XBox Live Arcade and I'm trying to see what are the accessories worth getting. I'll probably get 6 XBox and 2 360 games starting out.

The more popular the device, the more varieties of thrid party accessories...that's how it always is...anyway, to play on live, u just need a network cable (if the 360 doesn't come with one) a subscription card and maybe a headset (if the 360 you get isn't packaged with one) to talk to your team... it's not mandatory, but it helps and enhances the multiplayer experience

Everything you really need is in the box. If you buy a pro, you get the wired headset, one controller, all the a/v cables, a 60gb hard drive, one month of Xbox Live gold for free, and an ethernet cable. Eventually you will need to purchase a subscription to Xbox Live. You don't need anything else. It's all optional, it's all somewhat interesting, but it's generally unnecessary. You might want a second controller, or the wireless ethernet adapter if you need to connect wirelessly. Other than that, you should be good to go out of the box.
