Hey guys, I've had a 360 for almost a year now and I've never touched a Halo game... Next time I got some extra cash I'm actually going to pick one up.

So, should I get Halo 3 or ODST? Halo 3 has a better score on Gamespot but ODST looks 'cooler' from the trailers.

I thought ODST had a better singleplayer, but it was a bit shorter.

In terms of single player ODST takes more risks and really stands out among the Halo games, but Halo 3 is longer and and better put together. But judging each game on their own as a whole I'd reccomend ODST to a new comer. The campaign's story doesn't require you to be as familiar with the story as Halo 3 and ODST comes with all the DLC maps.

I liked Halo 3's singleplayer better. thought there was more variety in locations, biger better set pieces. the gameplay was better too (dual wielding, equipment, more vehicle segments and mission variety). also, Halo 3's campaign was longer.

EDIT: just elaborated on why I preferred Halo 3

Go for Halo 3, though I recommend both.

Honestly I would avoid both if your getting them for single player only. Halo games have some pretty bland and genaric single player gameplay.

The multiplayer more than makes up for it tho. tbh most fps's have pretty bland singleplayers with the exception of COD4, the singleplayer on that was great, especially on vet difficulty (more of a challenge than halo's legendary) all guillied up was inspired!

I realise this, but the OP says he wants it for single player more then the multiplayer.

The multiplayer is awesome, and if you are going to play it you should buy ODST for the map packs.

There is no question. Get ODST. It has the only Halo campaign besides Halo:CE (in my opinion) that is fun at all, and it includes the complete Halo 3 multiplayer, with all the maps. You will enjoy the campaign, but then you will be HOOKED by the multiplayer!
