Killer Instinct Gold. Who remembers it? Killer Instinct 3 discussion

Hey guys, I dug out and played Killer Instinct Gold on the N64 tonight and couldn't believe how long its been since it was released. Would love to see a Killer Instinct 3. Does Nintendo own the character rights to the game, or did Rare/Microsoft retain everything and let the series die? I honestly don't know. Anyway, here is my vid if you want to see.

One of the few fighting series I enjoyed.

KI was a fun series back in the day but i really couldn't see it being and special in this day and age.

Rare is currently under the ownership of Microsoft. Nintendo will not see another Rare title unless 360 sells the dev back to them. Unfortunately most of the talent at Rare left years ago which is why they launched games to middling reviews when they came to the 360. (And this is also why PDZ was not the same calibre of game as the original.)

If they did release KI, it would be a 360 exclusive at this point, and they would be fighting an uphill battle with the fighters of today that have presence on both the 360 and the PS3.

Which is a shame. I understand Rare is but a shell of its former self. If there is a glimmer of hope to the rumor a few months back that Nether Realm was trying to get the rights to it, well, let's hope so, because we know they'd create a KI that is true to its soul. E3 is coming :)

I would just prefer a remastering of Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2 over a completely new KI3.

I bought my 360 on 2006 because of some talking about Rare developing KI3 and a new Banjo game for the 360. The new banjo game came out (nuts & bolts) but was bad. Still waiting for my KI 3 though

Same could have been said about SF and MK, and check how great both games turned out to be :)

Rare really missed the boat on Killer Instinct. A few years back when SF and MK were released on XBLA and PSN, the retro fighting genre was hot. I even emailed Rare asking about KI 1 and 2. Their response? "We don't live in the past. We are looking to the future and our exciting new projects.". Glad that worked out so well for them. ch2423

Hard to believe they were the fathers of some of the best games on the n64... games thar still are, and will be remembered for ages to come :S

I know basically all of the employees who worked on the n64 era left the company but still, why won't MS fund at least a new Conker/Banjo/PD game??

the very first killer instinct was great(the arcade machine which i actually have in my home). the other ones sucked. so if they make another one like ki1 im in.

Care to elaborate? I'm talking about good games, and IMO they haven't done anything like what they did in the n64 era.

I remember going to the student union in college and watching people play this game. Specifically I remember one guy playing the game who was really good at it. Same guy was really good at Mortal Kombat 2.

I bought one of the KI games for SNES I think. I wouldn't mind seeing updated versions of the old game. I don't really care about a KI3, because I'm not into paying $60 for any fighting game. Just not my kind of game anymore.
