yea i would also say the 1st one overall but the 2nd one did add some really good stuff like getting visually better at cobat, robes looked much beter and stufflike thtbut lookin 4 the jedis got a bit borin and i thaught the endin kindasucked.

Well if you remember, KOTOR 2 was released pretty quickly. Much sooner than people expected. I think they tried to feed off of the success of the first KOTOR and get the second one out there as quickly as possible and as a result, the ending did suffer.
I have to be jsut about the only person who thought the second was better than the first, and I have to give my reasons for saying that. First of all, neither one is all that well optomized so both have stutters and some other framerate problems and the second game is worse than the first in that regard because they added things to the Engine and didn't work on optomizing things. The reason I really think the second is better though is the story, everyone will tell you that the story is better in the first than the second, but here's the thing, the story in the first game is simpler and in my opinion less like the established Star Wars universe. The second game on the other hand has a complex story that makes the you think about the morality of the two sides of force users, on top of the fact that it's story uses established Star Wars ideas that were nowhere in the first game. On top of all that, the interface is easier to use in the second, in the first game I could never get the hang of going into the menus and switching things in the heat of battle simply because things went from long range to short, it takes you too much out of the experience, whereas there is a option to do that right on the main combat interface in the second game (you have to set up two different sets of weapons though to switch between), also there is a greater difference in the force powers from class to class and from dark side to light side in the second game on top of more powers to chose from. The second game is by far a better game, but you should play the first one so that you know the story nuances and can appreciate the better interface in the second game.
I played the second one first and although it was good it was released incomplete with several parts of the game that were supposed to be scrapped still existent. First one wins.
KOTOR 1 is definitely better. 2 is still very good but I think it would have been way better if BioWare would have just agreed to make it instead of LucasArts going to Obsidian for it.
Kotor 1. It had two endings, that'stwo whole more than Kotor 2 had.
I just didn't like the general story direction of the second; I know they didn't have all the time to finish it, but that can only exscuse some things, not all of it.
Don't get me wrong though, I still enjoyed it alot.
The story in part one is much better, but part two I enjoyed the gameplay more... Got to use the force powers quicker along with the light saber as well. Part one dragged it out a bit till you got to use the powers.
The first one was better hands down. The second was very good in its own right but the ending was terrible and when compared to the first it is lacking in a lot of ways.
Kotor I was way better. Kotor II was really a lost opportunity to make a great game. There were too many glitches, the story was not as good, and they deleted a lot of content that would have been really interesting. Kotor I was one of the best RPGs, and it was really hard for the second to live up to it. Hopefully they'll make a third for the 360 that has amazing graphics.
