i just read in the newest EGM in the rumor mole section that a new team at bioware is beginning developement on a KOTOR MMO!!!! i am soooo happy and i hope this turns out to be true!!!! what do you guys think?? EDIT: k i just scoured all kinds of forums over google and it seems this EGM article has raised a lot of eyebrows. most people were either excited, like me, or utterly terrified for one of two reasons: a) they think an MMO would ruin the KOTOR stroryline and not be as emersive. but what they dont seem to get is that not all mmo's have to have some grand storyline that everyone follows. i see kotor online as a more free form Star wars universe in which the players can participate in all sorts of different activities like fighting (duh) mining, crafting, and so on. there would be diferent smaller quests based on what town your in or what race you choose (mandalorian for example), and of course probably the most compelling feature that would really set this MMO apart would be that your actions in-game determine what faction you represent (what side of the force you sway to) repulic or sith. another thing people were whining about was that there would be too many jedi running around, and i dont think this is true. i belive they should make jedi a class option for the HARDCORE player that relaly wants to follow a strict regimend of gaming and not go outside their boundaries. also there will be sooo many more classes to chose from i doubt it will be all jedi. and technically it would be OK for there to be a lot of jedi because this game would be set waaay before the trilogy where all the jedi's are extinct. b) another reason for people being put off immediately by this game is that when they hear anything about a "Star wars mmo" they immediately think of SWG and their gag reflex kicks in (lol). if this mmo would come true it would be NOTHING like swg other than its source material
Well they already did a Star Wars MMO, but that would be cool since I never played Star Wars Galaxys. But if they are making a MMO and just starting now don't expect the game for a good 2-3 years.

Well they already did a Star Wars MMO, but that would be cool since I never played Star Wars Galaxys. But if they are making a MMO and just starting now don't expect the game for a good 2-3 years.xelloss88
yeah but the difference is SWG sucked.. (believe me i gave it a good 3 tries) this is going to be an actually GOOD star wars MMO... plus its based off one of my favorite role playing games of all time!! its perfect!

No, that's TERRIBLE news! The last thing the world needs is another MMO. Besides, KotOR was always about a great Sp experience, going MP will only ruin a great franchise. NOOO!!!Â

Really doubt SOE will stay idle and let this happen. SOE owns the rights for the Star Wars MMO, even if it is named KOTOR MMO. The only way this can be true is SOE and Lucas Arts pulling the plug on SW:G (which I gave a good few years to). I wouldn't mind. SW:G had it's moments, but I think a new Star Wars MMO should be brought into the fray that will capture teh essense that IS Star Wars, and not mutilate it like Galaxies did. Want a Franchise Game with MAJOR continuity issues? SW:G is for you! At least with KOTOR it sets the timeline after Ulic Qel-droma and Nomi Sunrider and Exar Kun, and it's pretty much uncharted area and a good setting for a Star Wars MMO. Galaxies' problem was the timeframe they made it in, really hard not to frack up with what already happend or will happen. A KOTOR MMO will have WAY more freedom.
But, I still think it is bogus. I doubt SOE will let go of a Star Wars MMO, even if it a shell of what it used to be. 100k Jedi running frely after they are supposed to be extint! SOE and Lucas Arts made a KOTOR: Galaxies w/o knowing it. I would call for a remake. And it better have XvT quality space combat!Â

yeah... i played SWG too. it DID have its moments... but recently it is quickly fading to black. and since the STAR WARS liscence has SOOOO much potential for a great mmo, why wouldnt a devloper strive to make a new one?? i think the KOTOR universe is a great setting for an MMO. and frankly to the other posters hating on this unannounced game... i would much rather have a KOTOR mmo developed by bioware than a KOTOR 3 RPG developed by obsidian
I read that and I was super happy. I played SWG since release up untill the "new game experience", in which they ruined the game. I heard along time ago that they were putting together a team to do a space MMO at bioware. It has been a secret for a long time and I cant wait for them to release real information on it, and screen shots. :) Star wars ftw :p
I read this in EGM as well and I had mixed feelings. First I'm soo ready for a next-gen KOTOR but I'm not sure about MMO. Having been a long time player of Star Wars: Galaxies I've seen how fast things can go from good to oh so bad...
But look who made SWG. Every mmo they have, they change the core game mechanics so hardcore its a different game. They did it to swg multiple times and eq2 as well. I'm not sure about eq1 that was before my mmo days.
I was a longtime SWG player as well. Like someone else already said, I'll take KOTOR in ANY form at this point... I think the KOTOR games are the best Star Wars games I've played, so it seems like a solid idea to make those into an mmorpg. Everyone wants more KOTOR, afterall.
It doesnt destroy the series... people just love to cry. Having the mmorpg doesnt mean a KOTOR 3 will never come about, even if they released an mmo under the name "KOTOR 3" ...so what? They did that with Final Fantasy 11, and I sure didnt notice any decrease in popularity in that franchise.
I don't think its true. Bioware is still finishing up Mass Effect. I could believe another KOTOR(which would be great) but it wouldn't be an mmo.HaloONE
i know and EGM is well aware of that too.... it said that as bioware raps up on mass effect, they have started a small dev team to begin work on the KOTOR mmo. the reason i find this believable is that for this rumor mle to be reporting it in the #1 videogames magazine, he would have to have some sort of logical proof that its true, PLUS in the rumor mole section the KOTOR MMO rumor was featured

Hehe yeah.. well you wont regret it if you decide to play them. I still replay them both all the time, because they're so great. Only other games I do that with, are Fallout 1 and 2.

Agreed, MMO's are not for everyone. They can be the most enthralling, addictive gaming experiences available but beware that they can seriously screw up your real life. I've seen it happen.Â
As I stated in General Games Discussion, this could be potentially just as bad as it could be good. I'd rather play a single player KOTOR, anyways. An MMO wouldn't be coming to the same audience that played the first two, I say.
I don't want an mmo i want a full single player sequel,but i guess this is true seeing as bioware have been working an an mmo project for the last year or so.
I'm sure it will be 1000000% better than star wars galaxies :PÂ
