I bought xbox 360 for L4d. My spouse got it in her head to try video games and CoD WaW was a game she loved. So I thought well, she liked the campaign, nazi zombies and I love zombie games so I'll go get L4D. People told me if you are not going to play online don't get it...I didn't believe them since our standards as a co-op team isn't too high yet. Now keep in mind we were playing CoD's zombie stuff as two players only so as boring as it is to some, this was intense for her. Like "I drop my controller" intense when she gets scared.

We played L4D and I am rooting for this game. About 3 hours of play, and yes we suck...well she does and I kinda suck too compared to fps vets, we only got to the sewers of chapter one. While it was nice to have AI friends, I felt a tad less worried about dying in this game. It gave me a sense that I'll live and if not the bots will kill things and heal me.

So after this mini essay I am asking is L4D really best online w/ 4 people or do I just need to give the game some more time and it will still be great fun offline co-op game? I really want to love this game but we quickly went back to Nazi Zombies cuz she felt more at home w/ the controls for now.

Just want to know if any L4D players have played co-op offline and if they found it great etc. I already know single player is "ok".

Also since she loves CoD WaW co-op (simple game but great for her), should we just move on to Gears co-op? And revisit L4D when she has more experience? Would appreciate the help. My ultimate wish is to play an entire game dedicated to survival horror co-op. Much like the feel of REmake but w/ co-op....dark, closed areas etc. So I am hoping L4D can provide that for us.

thanks in advance....again she wont play online, she feels people get mad at her too much. I'm probably a weak link to the team as well, for now.

The offline campaign is only added so that players can learn the maps and controls. L4D was designed solely for the purpose of online multi-player. From my experience, this is the game that relies the most on teamwork, in gaming history, EVAR! Solo commandos are as good as dead. Warm up by trying online campaign co-op then try versus where you trade roles.

i would trade it in while the prices are still ok and wait for resident evil 5, that has 2 player offline co op and is more for survival than massacreing hordes of zombies although its not a first person shooter and the controls are quite different to cod WaW but i would reccomend it, the demo is out if u have XBL download the demo that is 2 levels long and also co op offline and online

L4D is an amazing 4 ppl co op game. but if you are playing with friends. cuz i u just join some random room. u might end up with some Dbags who doesnt give a damn about team work. im not saying everybody is like that cuz ive made some cool friends playing L4D. but most ppl are Dbags.

I've had so much fun by playing it online with four people. I haven't played it offline, but I have played it online but with only two human players, and it's still just as fun, but it can't beat the feeling of accomplishment of being apart of a four person team making your way through the levels.

I think that l4d is better online as you and your team can come up with tactics as to get through the game, sometimes one person makes hilarious noises while getting incapped or just for the fun of it. Offline co-op is great though, your not missing to much by playing offline but you really have to try online versus. It brilliant. I find that left 4 dead is a lot more strategic than nazi zombies though, i found nazi zombies pretty boring, and yes i have got the ray gun and gotten pretty high in it but it just aint fun.

[QUOTE="him42"]Honestly, the most fun I've had in L4D has been in offline co-op with one friend.SSBFan12
I agree.

thanks to all. While most seem to jump right into 4 player online, it is good to know others still find something in 2 player offline co-op. I have xbl and spent time there. Met alot who added me to their list so it isnt hard for me to find an invite or someone to invite. I don't know why they like me since I am a novie fps and not a true fan. Heck can I be a real fan if I never even played Halo lol. They seem to like for my strategy and how I can make split second decisions....but honestly I am a weak to the massacre. I'm just a good shot.

However, my spouse doesn't feel right online and I have to agree. Since our time together is limited, we like to do things that are just us. So thanks again for the encouragement, I will give L4D another try today w/ offline co-op. It will be a while before I go back to online, that just sucks up a lot of my time and you are all correct, there are some Dbags out there that make the game crap.

I will get RE 5 but didn't know if offline co-op was confirmed. I just wished it was a darker setting.

To the guy who found nazi zombies boring, yeah I know what you mean but we like it. It is just a throw in but it does have potential if they expanded on it. I find those zombies far more dangerous...or to be more exact I find the humans far more vulnerable w/ just a measley two hit and you're dead lol. I like it when the odds are against me.

L4D...I wish the horde rush was a bit more like "Oh MY GOD" instead of cannon fodder. Will play right now and thanks, all of you!

I had high hopes for this game because my wife and I both love the RE games and this had the same vibe but co-op. I was very dissapointed and found it too repetative both off line and on. I am going to wait for RE5 which has wicked Co-op and a real story line. I have WaW but have not tried the zombie mode yet. It is good?

You have at least 2 friends on your list don't you? Invite them for co-op. The upcoming DLC will include more melee weapons and a huge "Mall of America" like map. I just played the RE5 demo. Totally different feel from L4D but still has the annoying camera control. Are those even zombies?

different type of game, RE5 is a survival horror game while L4D is an action survival FPS. One requires restricted mobility and ammo while the other requires fast trigger finger and alot of moving and teamwork

No kidding I said same "vibe". You know zombies, guns, creepy locations. In L4D the zombies just run straight at you individually or in waves. I find this gets old after the second level. Online the AI controlled team mates usually do a better job than most people.

I prematurely locked this thread, thinking it was purely asking for recommendations, but upon reflection, it is asking for a lot more and should be re-opened. I find that L4D is really allowing me to get into the FPS genre in a way that other games don't, precisely for the reasons you mention: bots taking some of the pressure off, and being healed when I'm getting slaughtered. I also love it online, but that doesn't sound like the way your wife wants to play.

Personally L4D is better online with friends (you can bring her in as a Guest Live login so that is good! :D) As for co-op games - I play with my fella all the time and we love the splitscreen co-op. Great ones we have enjoyed are: Gears of War 1 & 2, WAW, L4D, Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 & 2

hey thanks! L4D is growing on us after the people in this thread urged us to keep playing. It makes for some funny moments since my wife get's nervous when she realizes we are hanging in one place too long. I like to stay quiet sometimes and let her think of the next step...sorta my way of teaching her how to be a good gamer. When i'm quiet for too long she says "we have to go we have to go, they will be coming for us!!" lol.

Yeah she wont play online but I understand that. Last thing I want is for her to hate the game because of impatient players or worse yet, bad players teaching her to do wrong things like straying from the group. There are some players out there who like to pick on noobs and use them as cannon fodder lol.

thanks for re posting!

awesome, i bought all those games for co-op offline reasons. WAW she loves! We haven't touched the rest as a team yet and the rainbows are on my other console (like the controls).

About bringing her in as a guest live login in can you elaborate. Sorry, I have an account and so does she on xbl but I find no reason to really play much anymore. When I was online she never played. So if I play online with friends she can come in as a guest? Does this mean one console or she needs to be at her console (we have two of each console except wii).

Zombie mode concept is fun. It is the horde mode of gears 2. It will get old for many but if you just like the thrill of hanging in there for as long as you can, it is worth it. Besides you already have the game so might as well unlock that mode and try it. If you play w/ just two understand that it was made for 4 players so you will have your hands tied but I found it intense. If you get the right mystery gun and the right location it is awesome but there is strategy as well. Don't expect it to be RE, it is just a thrill ride not content based.

Give it a go. After L4D my wife always says "What do you want to do tonight? Dinner and movie? L4D? or maybe Nazi Zombies? I'm kinda in the mood for mission impossible!" That is her nick name for Nazi Zombies :).

just the cost of your membership w/ your xbox...gold. I just don't play much online but when I did I met some good players (when they choose to be). So when you get your membership you can play as long as you want but just know that not everyone will play by the rules. In this game, if you try to be Mr. Solo or a Hero, everyone perishes.

The other poster said it is way better with 4 people...he is probably right but my wife and I have more fun alone. Our online friends are just that. I don't know them personally. Other than my brother and a few gamestop employees I met (i don't work there), I find more quality time with just my wife and I at the entertainment center. Yeah the game probably shines more w/ 4 but we don't enjoy strangers who just don't have people skills lol. Have fun!

I tryed Left 4 Dead offline and it was NOT a good experience , i thought the game was a disaster !

Until i went online.......It was like a totally new experience specially because you have different kind of personality's in each player !

So my advice , spend those 50$ on a year of Xbox Live and get in the game .

Even call of duty WAW will become a lot more fun . You will love it and your gf will realize how gaming should be ! ;)

Only massive multilayer games (example : World Of Warcraft) require you to pay for playing .

thanks i'm pretty used to it but we are now having tons of fun just offline. It was a disaster at first but at her level this is best. I may be missing out on what the game truly is about which is 4 player, but honestly not interested. I have my gold membership and can play online anytime. Maybe when she is not in the mood to play i will join you, thanks so much for the invite. But for now, we are having alot of laughs offline.

too many crap players online for my taste. Another mentioned WAW benefiting online. I have it on ps3 and honestly if people would get organized like COD4 then I would play it. Right now most just run and gun.

I'll still contact you when I find it is time to play oniine but seriously, aside from you, most out there need some people skills lol.

its best played online with 4 people, 4 people who arent idiots i mean lol. but playing co-op with yr gf should be good, as long as your not playing it alone. i think the games motto is 'bring a friend', or something. just give it some time.

I really want to love this game but we quickly went back to Nazi Zombies cuz she felt more at home w/ the controls for now.

Just want to know if any L4D players have played co-op offline and if they found it great etc. I already know single player is "ok".

My ultimate wish is to play an entire game dedicated to survival horror co-op. Much like the feel of REmake but w/ co-op....dark, closed areas etc. So I am hoping L4D can provide that for us.

thanks in advance....again she wont play online, she feels people get mad at her too much. I'm probably a weak link to the team as well, for now.

blue900

As much as I love L4D...I would say(in your case) trade it in,it's not for you guys. Just as most people have said in this thread,it's really built for the 4ply online experience. Or you could find some mature people who just wanna have fun and who will be patient with you guys until you learn the ropes. If you want, you can add me...the best time to catch me is on the weekend and maybe once or twice during the week.

...I wish the horde rush was a bit more like "Oh MY GOD" instead of cannon fodder.blue900
Haven't played Expert yet, have you. Even if you're not a ture fps aficionado, you owe it to yourself to play expert. That's where the stakes are higher, and playing as a team really counts. As for not playing online because there are douchebags out there, are you afraid to step out of your house? Trust me, there's a lot more douchebags in the world than online, playing Left 4 Dead... Online really is best, in my mind, due solely to the fact that you have four human controlled players. If you have someone on your team who plays against the team, or just plain sucks, I think it just adds realism. Mute the guy, and continue playing... One less human player trumps having both computer players in my mind.

well no I am an adult but I can walk out of a situation w/ people i don't like lol. I can play online, no problem. But let's face it, as many crap people there are out in the real world, their true mean streak comes out when they hide behind a screen. Just look at any forum or post.

For online play, I prefer MMORPG's because i can team up and then disband when done and do my own thing. I am not so afraid of online, but I respect my wife. There are times she has gotten in alot of trouble and in my quest to help her, I get everyone in trouble. Like when she get's disoriented and then the horde is on her. She did well tonight killing all sorts of special infect. She was nearly 3 points away from the A.I. guys who kill special infected. To me that is great considering those guys practically know exactly where the baddies are and one shot them.

I pretty much pass the A.I. in special infected and overall except when I truly need to hold my wife's hand. I can see the awesome experience around the corner for online but we are already having a great time. It was boring at first but now it is great. Knowing what your A.I. guys do (killing off special infected too easily) and don't (not knowing it is safer on higher ground etc, makes for different planning. Kind of like working around real players who don't listen lol.

So we are good, it is something for her level and I don't want to feel like I am playing a boring game by just playing offline with her. I might feel this way when I start online. When she is over the game, then I will go online.

I wish there were more maps but at her level, we have played this every other nite now for a month and she just finished the the 3rd map w/ me. So all in all it is a good buy for a beginner. It teaches you rules, and if you don't follow these rules you will get everyone killed.

But as for online, meh. When I played City of Heroes, as boring as it was, I could have great times w/ a team but after a long task force I needed to get away from some of them. i think you should understand how a person as new as my wife feels about dealing w/ online people.

Thanks! will do that some time when my wife is over the game. I don't want to like the game even more online and get bored when she and I play offline. I really prefer MMORPGs for online. Shooters not so much but I do have online buddies I've played COD4 with etc. They are just not into L4D by the time I bought it. Will inform you when I am ready for it.

So fellow WoWer? everQUESTER? WaRHamMerER? I am in the same boat, MMORPGs, FPS online/offline, Console and PC. IMO a game is a game, and it's only as fun as who you play with. So, lets talk about online multiplayer! only kidding. Split-screen campaigns is a different world of video games, it puts 2 REAL people against the intelligence of the AI. My recommendation, why get caught up in one game? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_coop_games ARMY OF TWO Kane and Lynch: Dead Men These are my 2 favorites other then the list you posted, Now before i get flamed hear me out. First person shooters are tactical, especially when sitting next to someone you can also talk to. It forces you to communicate (and yes right now by staying silent you are forcing her to figure it out) ARMY OF TWO was a short game, horrible interface and the aggro/stealth was not needed. It did however add spice to the same monotonous FPS. Also, as Kane and Lynch was one of the strangest stories and none of it made any sense, guns/interface was also lacking (and even the control style was jankie) but i recommend this game because it was just good for a laugh, and to blow off some steam. it felt really easy to play. (may not be the case for everyone* user discretion is advised) The way we play (roommate and myself, our skill set is a little higher) is hardest level flat out off the bet, makes for some extra time and higher skill set. (maybe sneak a level increase in there and see how she fares?) Well works over, thanks for the entertainment! Dark*
