L4D2 melee only

If you're going for the "melee only" for an entire level in L4D, can you still throw pipe bombs/molotovs? And what if you get knocked down (and your pistol automatically gets taken out) does firing it cancel everything? I'm preparing myself for this acheivement so any tips will be greatly appreciated :)

Never use a gun even if your down your not allowed to shoot if you do then the achievement will not count, not sure about the pipe bombs etc.

i got the acheivement in a kinda cheaty way. i did it during one of the mutations that gave everyone an unlimited chainsaw. im pretty sure youre allowed to use pipe bombs and what not. but im not certain

I wouldn't risk using molotovs or pipe bombs. Just play the very first campaign on easy and grab a melee weapon in the very beginning. Never fire your pistol or any other gun. Don't even pick up a primary gun at all, as a safety precaution.

Confederacy of Crunches -30 G : Finish a campaign using only melee weapons.

Once you start a campaign you will find various guns, ammo, medi kits etc. There will normally be at least one melee weapon. (Axe, Nightstick, Crowbar, See "Club Head" for a full list)

If you are downed, you must not fire. If you use any guns including the last stand weapons this achievement will not unlock.

If you have picked up a gun by mistake and have a melee weapon press Y. You can hold other guns but you must not fire them.

So I guess no one knows for sure if pipe bombs/molotovs etc. are acceptable or not.. but yeah I guess it's too risky to use.

You can use pipe bombs/molotovs you just cant fire a bullet from any gun. Make sure if you get downed not to fire your pistol, I messed this up like 3 times before I finally got the achievement.
