Couldn't bring myself to read that large body of text, so I'll comment on the thread title instead.
L.A. Noire is said to be around 12 or so hours long, and I agree with you here that this game is really too short, seeing as how this game offers nothing in the way of online/multiplayer they really should have focused on packing much more content into the SP aspect of the game.
it's 3 disc's because of the over 400 character's facial animations, they even said before it came out that just because it's 3 disc's long don't expect it to be bigger or longer than GTA 4
One of the reasons I picked up L.A. Noire was because of the supposed 25-30 hour gameplay... Now, I haven't completed it, but I've put less than 5 hours into it thus far, and have gotten a decent way into the game. That, coupled with the fact that I feel that the majority of my gametime comes from watching cinematics, does make the game feel a little lackluster in it's length. It's in no way a 25-30 hour game, and I'll be surprised if it takes me more than 15 hours to complete it. However, being an achievement lover, I know I will sink more pointless hours into the game trying to 5-Star every case, finding all of the film reels, and getting the game to 100%. However, I imagine that when L.A. Noire's first DLC drops (see link below), I will be more than ready for some new content.

I was slightly disappointed hearing the length, but the stuff they put into this game is so god damn incredible that I don't think it really matters.
A lot shorter than I thought it was going to be, but I'll also be going through and doing everything for the achievements, something I wasn't really able to do with GTA 4.
Took A look at that link and makes more sense now why they made the game as short as they did. The fact that two of the assignments (Desks) where omitted from the game due to limited room for data is crazy. The graphics where good but its nuts that they take up that much data. I think personally that this was meant to be a DLC heavy game from the beginning. You pay 60 bucks for the game, beat it in two days but really want more so you buy the DLC as it comes out. To play this game fully expanded with all the DLS is going to be well over 100 bucks and maybe over two. Rock Star is Smart. Gonna make a ton of money. They could have easily made the game graphically more along the lines of Red Dead and nobody would have complained, and then they could have fit more content in. I thinks its cool that they are pushing th envelope of what the current gaming systems are capable of but when I am spending 60 bucks on a new game in this economy I expect more then 6 hours of cinematic content and 15 hours of game play with wicked good graphics. One of the reasons I picked up L.A. LA Noire, as a whole was a pretty cool game. I think it was a bit over rated during the anticipation of its release. The graphics and Dialog was marginally, if at all, better then other Rock star games like GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption. It seemed like a very short game for a 3 disk game and I blew threw each disk in as short as 3-4 hours. GTA IV, a one disk game, took me months to complete just the main story line. I guess they had to use so may disks because of the large, and accurate depiction of Los Angeles circa 1947, but much of the city you don't really use during the main story. Rock Star included a few historical landmarks with in the city that you can discover, but far less then I would expect for a 3 disk historical fiction based game. Also, the game play was okay at best. I love the whole detective, find the clues, interrogate witnesses, and solve the case thing. It just seemed to straight forward to me. I felt like I did not have much else to do besides go straight through the main story line, interrupted only by going on a few radio calls, whereas with games like GTA and Red Dead you have a lot more freedom to play the story out how you want and when you want with a lot of extra stuff to do that involves more than chasing down and shooting someone. Speaking of that, the side "quests" or, street crimes as they are called in the game, are all the same. Show up and either chase down the bad guy or shoot a bunch of bad guys which took all of two seconds. Sometimes you would have to drive clear across town, which takes a good amount of time even in a fast car, just to kill one bad guy after which you would get back to your case. I bought my pre-ordered copy on Tuesday and just beat it now on Thursday morning. Two days, I did play a lot but not 24 7. It was far less than a 40 hour game and I did a lot of the extra stuff you could do. All and all a cool game, but with all the hype that surrounded it I am a bit disappointed. I know they are going to have some DLC coming out so we will see how that is. I think the would have been better served to to a Allen Wake style episodic story line, where you get the first installment with the initial purchase, and you can buy new "Episodes" with more cases and different stories as they are developed. Maybe they are intending to do something like this with the DLC maybe adding a new detective or different characters with more cases. I will probably give it one more play through to see what the replay value is like and if there are alternate endings.JP1384It took you months to finish the main story of GTA4, wow i thought that story was really short, i remember getting the game at midnight and 2 days laters i beat it.
I'm not sure how you guys are playing this game actually. I've clocked in 11 hours and I've only completed 10 of the cases and around 13 of the side quests.
I'm assuming that I will be racking up a total of 25+ hours into this game.
I am paitently awaiting my copy from gamefly hkymike
Me too. I didn't send Brink back in time to get it shipped. :x
Games like this simply aren't worth $60. I'll gladly pick it up when its $20 or so, for me its the type of game you beat and then shelve. I still can't understand how Rockstar as a company follows up the versatility of Red Dead Redemption with a game that is short and only has single player. Jurassic85
Good god man, does nobody understand that Rockstar DID NOT DEVELOP this game? They only published it. It took me 19 hours to beat the game along with the extra case from Gamestop. It really does have replay value as far as I'm concerned, going back to 5 star cases or get missed achievements can add hours to a game. Plus there are a lot of little side things to do; street crimes, film reels, vehicles, badges, locations, etc.

Because Rockstar didn't develop it. Also, if you think that every game needs multiplayer, then this gen has permenantly ruined gaming.
