I am thinking about getting Left 4 Dead, but do not know which one to purchase. Which one is better? The first or the second? And can anyone please give me some info on how many people play the game now?

They're both awesome, I'd say get both cause they're both probably fairly cheap by now, but if you have to choose just one I'd go for 2, they added a ton of stuff that made it more worth while, plus it's. Lot scarier than the first ( I thought )

L4D2, the first one you can tell it's REALLY old. Great series, just wish you could aim down sights...

Both are fun games. The second is better because of it's melee weapons, otherwise they're both similar.

To answer your question about how many people still play... not much I think. I gave L4D2 a try about 5 months ago and could not get anyone in my lobby. You will end up playing it by yourself.

Both games aren't anything special unless you have friends willing to play with you, you'll still probably end up getting bored within 10-15 hours.

Melee weapons? really? did you ever play the game above normal difficulty because you cannot win with them, they suck. they are entertaining for about 5 min.

First game all the way. campaigns are better, none of this collecting 16 gas cans cr@p

I played it week ago and the game was very active. nobody also joint in my lobby but just go in some1 else hes lobby.

I had more fun playing the first one, but if you play the franchise for the first time then pick lfd2, it has more content.

Left4dead 2 is better than the first but the characters you play in the first are better than the characters in the second.

Nope, because I don't care about difficulty.

The melee weapons are fun in Left 4 Dead 2, that's all I care about.

Melee weapons are really effective when there is a hoard on you; it's much more useful than pistols when you're surrounded.

L4D1 and 2 feel very similar. While I do like the survivors in L4D1 better, I find that the addition of new infected, weapons/items more fun in L4D2. There is still plenty of people playing L4D2...but I wish that they just had a matchmaking system, because hosts tend to boot people out too often. It can take a while to get a game going if none of your friends are playing. This game requires a lot of teamwork, so I suggest you find friends that are willing to work together.

get Left 4 Dead 2. pretty strong community. eventually the Cold Stream DLC will be coming out, which has all the campaigns from the first game. basically making the first game useless.

I say get the 2nd one on Xbox. It has splitscreen co-op, new infected, new weapons, and the online will be more active. I like the 1st one more for the atmosphere and story, but L4D2 is a better game.

The online logistics of L4D is by far the worst design ever, breeding a community filled with constant kicking and trash talking griefers (when you actually get into a game). Say something back that the host doesn't like? Kick. The system of 2 people (out of 4) being able to vote-kick out whoever they like is a complete joke.

Short version: Make sure you have a group of friends to play with if you are even thinking about playing L4D2 online, or set aside at least 30 minutes to get into a room that isn't occupied by a couple of morons.

First, look at my name.

Second, I have both games.

Third, they are both great.

Fourth, the way to have fun playing these games is to constantly jump into different games. Don't be disappointed if you play with morons or get kicked. Just constantly jump to new games any time something stupid happens. Takes 20 seconds to jump into a new game. The good thing is when you meet nice people and make friends, then you can do whole campaigns together. Otherwise jump game to game, try to be helpful and friendly with people.

Right now I would get L4D1 first.

It has a better community, more fun maps and generally less frustrating.

Eventually all the LD41 maps will be available in L4D2, making the second game all you need. But right now that is not the case.

Just get L4D1 for now.

Okay, so my response was slightly negative, lol...

Zombiekiller is right, though. They are great games and when you get into the right room you can have a ton of fun. I also found that if you don't use chat you usually get kicked. My bro and I were in a party and tried getting into games for a while but kept getting kicked. Once we went with game chat the kicking happened less often.

Hopefully you have fun though. The scavenger mode in L4D2 was really fun.

I agree that L4D's online is badly designed; many times I've found myself getting kicked as soon as I enter a game. (at least give me a chance to prove that I can play well)... playing split screen helps prevent getting kicked in the middle of a game; however, when people enter a lobby with a guest, chances are they'll get kicked before the game begins... can be frustrating

I loved playing Left 4 Dead, but Left 4 Dead 2 had more variety. But the characters were shallow so I play one for fun, and two for the weapons

I preferred the first Left 4 Dead. I wasn't as keen on the whole 'daylight' maps on 2. I think I prefer the cliché dark, rainy back alley zombie attacks. I preferred the simplicity too.

Both games are very good. There great to play with friends and other online members. Both are also really cheap but if you could only buy one i would advise you to buy the second since in my opinion I enjoyed the multiplayer much more and the campaign was just an overall greater experience than the first.
