Live hook-up question...confused

Ok, I'm trying to set up live through my laptop and i am deeply confused. It tells me that I need my MAC filtering to allow my console's MAC address or disable it. How do I do these things? I am using a wireless router for my laptop, I do not own a xbox live router.

put a direct connection from your laptop to your router

go in the browser, type192.168.1.1 and hit enter

asks for login, it's probably admin/admin

then go to a tab that should say MAC Address or MAC Filter, disable it or mask it

I do this myself but I have a PC. I don't know too much about the mac filter but it's just a simple bridge. There is probably somewhere to just disable the mac filter. I'm sure you can find a tutorial if you just look it up.

I have looked up tutorials and theyhave really confusing directions. Sorry, but I don't know how to DIRECTLY connect my laptop to my router...like I said I dont know anything about computers. I'm sorry that I fail so hard, but could you be a little more detailed?
