Lol, is it a joke by saying "Brought to you by Progressive Auto Insurance" or did Microsoft really sell achievements for advertising? I mean advertisments in games dont bother me, but seeing them in achievements? That would get kinda annoying!!

Your thoughts?

I'm not too bothered by this but I know it will become a bit of an eye-sore if every achivement had a "Brought to you by ..." on the end of it.

Microsoft loves money above all else (can't blame them really). That's about the long and short of it.

I think the whole "achievements" thing is a bunch of rubbish to begin with. I enjoy releasing extras in games as far as new costumes or levels or whatever, but braggin about your "gamerscore" is just about the saddest and lamest thing I've ever seen in gaming.

They should get rid of "achievements" alltogether and just have releasable content specific to each game.

In EAs Fight Night Round 3, lets see, there was an Under Armour achievement, a Dodge achievement, a couple ESPN achievements, a Everlast achievement and a Burger King achievement. This is nothing new. And lets not count out achievements is damn near every racing game like "collect all Ferraris" or "collect all Lamborghinis". Thats all advertiseing too.

No, they should not. I do agree that bragging about your gamer score is all types of lame but achievements are a great way to add tons of replay value to a game.

I wouldn't mind the odd logo - No need for the screen clutter of "brought to you by".

If you look at it, the achievements brought to you by Progressive Insurance, the achievements are for your first big crash and being a safe driver. So I think its kinda clever and sly marketing and doesn't bother me at all.

As for the PGR3 achievements someone mentioned, yes, I guess that is advertising, except its not going to make me go buy a real Ferrari or Lambo. It just about collecting everything in game. Would it be better if it said..."Collect all Italian made cars with a horse in the logo"???

Or is that advertising Italy, now?

And the Fight Night 3 achievements...that game is loaded with advertising from top to bottom, much like real boxing is. So to a point, it makes the game more realistic. The achievements are for winning the fight sponsored by that company. yes, this is obvious marketing, but in some ways makes the game more real. The advertising doesn't make me want to buy a Dodge or watch ESPN more than I already do.

BTW...I think achievements are great. Not for bragging rights, but in a way, kinda. The gamerscore means jack to me...but when I see that someone has all the achievements for a game, I pretty much know what kind of gamer they are and how good they are.

I have to agree except for the Fight Night Round 3 game. That game has a few advertisements that are lame. For instance, the 2006 Dodge car advertisement and even the Burger King advertisement. Those did not even existin the "Boxing era".

I agree with KungFool on this one. Achievements would be useful if they actually allowed you to get something out fo them. Like perhaps a free 300 MS points or some **** However in the end, they are bragging right. And as far as bragging rights for video games go, it just proves to the extent at which you don't get laid or have rl friends.

If you were a boxer, and you won an Everlast sponsord fight, that would be an achievement in your career, If you wont a dodge sponsored fight, that would be an achievement in your career, As far as farraris and lambos go, if you can afford collecting all Lambos and Farraris, then that is most deff an achievement in real life, but what kind of achievement is totaling your car? Or putting K&N products in your car?

Aside from the advertising in games, with Fight Night and PGR the worlds "Brought to you by Under Armour" or "Brought to you by Ferrari" wasnt in the game, so you cant prove that UA or Ferrari was behind either of those achievents, but u can bluntly see that Progressive is behind these acheivenets along with K&N lol, i just think its pathetic.

I agree to an extent. The Burger King thing is over the top, with the "King" coming out with you, blah blah blah. But the Dodge is just a sponsor of the fight, and most boxing matches/events have sponsors IRL.

I think MS has rewards in mind for achievements, but when they realized people were using other "methods" to obtain them, they knew they couldnt reward that kind of behavior.

And jchaff, yeah, I see your point. It is kinda pathetic, but I can halfway see the Progressive one. In a way it is kinda funny. Would be better if it was Geico though. LOL.

Well, I was more specifically talking about the game mode that lets you play a historical fight from the past but then you see a 2006 Dodge Charger (and its not just an advertisement, the actual car is on display). This just ruins the experience. As for the Progressive car insurance achievement for Need for Speed ProStreet, I agree that if it was Geico it might of been more funny since their commercials and such are very random.

In PGR4 there's an achievement that you buy when you have enough credits or kudos.

when "you" get upset about advertising in gaming it is an absolute action to THINK about why it's even in there. like the advertisments in guitar hero 3, why would they have a "axe" sponsored guitar in the game? not because they are sellouts (total sellouts anyways) but because how else can they afford to get all of those master tracks??? sometimes devs need to get advertisments to get cash, even if they don't want to do it.

I never would have beaten COD 2 on Veteran without an achievement waiting for me and encouraging me to go on. It is truly rewarding to get that 1000 next to a game...even my score for Open Season. :)

Why not planetside has had advertisements for years, and fight night round 3 allows you to have "the king" in your corner. If it generates revenue they will do it.
