ellogamespot :)

i've decided i'm going to be a console gamer instead of PC, i played EA skate at a friends and deicided i just have to get it

i'm pritty sure i've made my mind up and i want the 360 over the ps3.. (mostly becuase of the diference in price)

i've beenaround forums, read loads of reviews but still left with a few questions;

should i just get the core system? i don't want tostore music/videoson it.. i got a pc for that

are there other advantages of having a hdd?

this new 65nm chip, do all xbox360's now have this chip installed in the uk now?

.

.

... sure i had more questions then just that... i'll maybe post again later when i remember lol

thanks,

alex

defidently get the premium, even though you say you wont use harddrive, you will, xbox live, demos, and in case you may wanna save large files and whatnot, not even worth getting it without the harddrive, all my friends bought the core cause they would "never need the harddrive", they all went out an bought one about a week after they owned it :)

I'm Glad to hear your getting a 360, put do not get the core system.

your going to have to buy another 30-50 dollar memory card just like the last gen systems, for and extra 100 bone i think, you get the harddrive whcih makes alot more sense then buying the cards, and if your gunna wnana play online you got no headset brotha

get the premium. it has a 20gb hdd so even if down the road you want to buy maps or extra content for a game you'll be able to do that. you also get 2 free games with it: forza 2 and marvel ultimate alliance. if you don't like them then sell them and make up most of the difference.

don't hold me to this but i think you could also get halo 3 for free somehow when signing up for a silver membership.

Free games? They are not free. It's called a 'special offer'. More lambs to the slaughter that is marketing.

Connect it to your monitor, you can in theory get better than HD quality depending on how good your monitor is.

yes, it would clearly be a little cheaper if those games weren't included, great find.

I would at least get the Premium if you can afford it.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm not positive whether the UK products are the same as N. America.

Firstly, in N. America they discontinued the Core and for the same price introduced the Arcade which has a wireless controller and a memory card. However the harddrive is invaluable for downloading game demos and extra content like multiplayer levels. The premium has a 20gb HDD which is probably enough for most users, the Elite has a 120GB HDD.

All 3 versions support HD but the Core (and I believe the Arcade too) only ships with a standard definition cable. The Premium and Elite ship with a standard definition and a component HD cable. The Elites have an HDMI port (but I don't believe they ship with an HDMI cable) and some new Premiums also have this port. If you wish to connect it to your monitor for HD then MS as well as several 3rd parties make a VGA cable. I personally use it and it's a great way to get HD without paying for the TV

As for online play, the all 360s have a built in Ethernet port, however if you can't run a cable and need WiFi, the WiFi adapter is not cheap. You can also connect through a computer with a free Ethernet port. The premium and elite ship with a decent Ethernet cable.

In North America you currently get Marvell Ultimate Alliance and Forza 2 with certain new 360s. Shop around, I'm sure a retailer near you offers somthing similar.
