Lost games data please help

My Nephew was downloading the Halo 3 Map Pack and all of a sudden it frooze and he lost all of his game saved data!Is their something that he can do to get back all of his lost data?

oh my gosh... that could happen? you make me wanna buy a memory stick and copy all my saved games for safety :(

that's a scary thing to happen men... a saved file of Forza 2 and Bioshock and Oblivion and Marvel Ultimate Alliancewould mean very very very long hours of re-play.
