I have played an incredible 52 minutes of Lost Oddysey on the Xbox 360 and all I have managed to achieve so far is a handful of battles, standing in on some high powered council meeting and picked up a few items around the level terrain.

Please tell me this game gets better. It looks good but so far the game is painfully slow and the dialogue is pretty poor. The stereotypical RPG non-playables are pretty torrid too, how many ''there was a big explosion. No one could have survived that'' can I take?!?!

It will go away from that soon. Have you encountered the first dream yet?

yeah it will soon get way more indepth. the slow start adds to the story, it makes it seem more obscure. towards the end you should start to enjoy it.

I thought it was quite a quick start, they put you straight into battle, but then I agree that when going to the city is a bit slow.

The storyline doesn't take off until the 3rd disc...but when it did, it was epic.

Im still on the first disc think about 9 hours in or something and man this game drags im waiting for it to pick up but it becomes a bore when nothing is really happening. Has been a few good moment but trailing around a town looking for the next quest is dull.

I've never played a jrpg that didn't have a slow start. Just be glad it's not like Kingdom Hearts II with it's six hour tutorial level.

A lot of RPGs start out slow so you must have a bunch collecting dust. Just give it time or don't buy RPGs anymore. A slow start to an RPG is typical I'm not sure why this is such a big deal.

I really wanted to like this game, but the combat mechanics were so ancient and I really wasn't in the mood to grind stupid looking monsters for XP. Kaim was awesome and I really wanted to know what happended, but the game was just too boring.

I never needed to grind when I played the game except for one boss.

Well I did, and that doesn't change the fact that the combat was boring. Like I said, I really liked the story, but the gameplay sucked.

I thought the combat was great, the ring system was good.

I guess we like different things then as I loved the combat. I just love the good ol' turn-based strategy games I guess it's because of Final Fantasy. How far were you into the game? I only remember the haunted house being troublesome and the worm boss after that there really wasn't any parts that needed level-grinding or at least not enough to get tedious.

Those two electic worms or whatever those were was the part I stopped. I could kill the first one, but the second one killed me, and I just quit playing. Traded it in to get Batman.

I don't mind turn based combat as long as it is either a). has flashy attacks or b). is stratiegic. Lost Odesssy didn't seem like either to me.

You were really early on and it got a lot more strategic later on especially considering you only had three part members at that point. That part was a bit tricky but after you cheated a little and looked up a guide it wasn't too bad. There was one simple strategy that you could use that would have taken a while but it wasn't too hard and let Kaim learn anti-petrify or anti-paralysis one of those two(I forgot which one) while Jansen wore the item that gave it.

It gets better (until you meet the two plagues of crap known as Cooke and Mack), but to me it was a tad boring overall. I thought it was a good game, but there was just something about it that almost put me to sleep a few times. It's worth sticking with it and beating the game, but I doubt you'll ever go through another playthrough. I know I havent.

The first disc of Lost Odyssey, I felt, was somewhat slow moving, especially when compared to everything that occurs after the end of disc 1. Everything that follows seemed to be constantly moving, due in part to the story-telling. I still think Losy Odyssey has some of the best writing and story-telling in any games that I have seen in a long time. It may have its moments of hokeyness but, otherwise, it had its fair share of action and emotion.

It is a slow started. But, it's definitely a good game. Also, it's an RPG, 52 minutes into a game I put over 80 hours into isn't anything. You typically have to give RPGs a few hours at least.
