So Lost Odyssey. Yeah. Not alot of 360 gamers excited over this game. I probably know only 15 at most.

Is it simply because it's just another Japanese role playing game like Final Fantasy to you guys or is it just over shadowed by Mass Effect and Halo? The XBOX is getting a lot more JRPG support with games like Blue Dragon (exclusive), The Last Remnant, Eternal Sonata (currently exclusive, could be timed), Lost Odyssey (exclusive and looks epic), Cry On (exclusive) and Infinite Undiscovery (exclusive) (the last two are not coming this year though), and I would really feel sad to see these games not selling well. We currently even have more JRPG support than the PS3! Being a 360 owner and a fan of JRPGs, I'd really hate to see these games, especially Lost Odyssey, go ignored and unappreciated.

For those of you who don't know what Lost Odyssey's about, here's a small summary:

Lost Odyssey is a JRPG and is being made by Mistwalker, a company founded by its director Hironobu Sakaguchi, the father of Final Fantasy. Microsoft, Sakaguchi, Nobuo Uematsu (the music composer of several awesome games), Kiyoshi Shigematsu (an award winning Japanese novelist), and Takehiko Inoue (creator of Vagabond and Slam Dunk), and several employees of the former Square company are working together to bring you a story of an immortal man who is living during a period of a magic industrial evolution.

If you seem even remotely interested, please look up more info about this game.

Anyways, I just wanted to bring Lost Odyssey above your radar, because I really think this game has a lot of potential. If you don't like it, that's fine and I understand. I'm just hoping that there's a nice JRPG fan base for the 360.. So yeah, please take part in the poll.

P.S. I didn't buy a 360 just for JRPGs. I also bought one for Mass Effect, Halo 3, Bioshock, Alan Wake, Assassin's Creed, KUF: COD, PGR4, Fable 2, Banjo Kazooie, and GTA4. So no flames plz.

Pretty much the same with me. I just knew it was a JRPG exclusive for the 360 then when I found out Sakaguchi was behind it.. well, one thing led to another.

I am one of the few who are actually looking forward to this game more than Halo 3 (nointerest whatsoever) Mass Effect (meh) or Bioshock (cant wait for the demo tho), simply because it has Sakaguchi and Uematsu attached to it. With Sakaguchi and Uematsu, the heart and soul of Final Fantasy left Squaresoft, and that's the reason the last FFs weren't all that great. I have never understood why people loathe Random Encounters / Turn-Based battles so much, as these techniques allow the developers to design some awesome dungeons (not the random labyrinths a la FFXII) as well as nice encounters.

Here's hoping we'll have the first "real" JRPG in years.

Well I really doubt that it will have random encounters. Blue Dragon doesn't, so I find it unlikely that Lost Odyssey will. Still, this for me is a positive point, I like being able to see the enemies in my way, but thats just me. What really interests me about this game, though, isn't really the gameplay, but the story, which I think could be very good. I'd put this in my top 5 for 07 (Mass Effect, Bioshock, COD 4, Eternal Sonata the others).

Sorry to disappoint you, but it's been confirmed that it has random encounters, but they won't be all that frequent.

No big deal, I can deal with random encounters. Plenty of great games have had them. I just prefer non-random.

I don't really care for turn based RPG's myself - but this game looks good so I'll probably get it.

I'll wait to see if the game gets good reviews. It seems interesting though. Then again, I'm not that into turn-based either...

I'll be picking this game up even if I'm a frequent basher of most JRPGs simply because I love the steampunk setting. That being said, its still a little too "every other JRPG" for my tastes. I don't mind random encounters provided the combat is interesting and fun like it was in Enchanted Arms (not the best game but the grid based fighting was awesome). This game has random encounters and the old "three dudes standing in a line hitting three other dudes standing in a line" like in all but the latest FF's. That particular fighting style really bothers me..sadly even Blue Dragon is like that...Bugger all JRPGs approach combat in a different way, and sadly I think its going to be like that for a long time - if not forever:(

Kinda sad to think that Chronno Trigger, a game made *so* very long ago on the Snes systems had so much innovation and originality in story and gamrplay mechanics over fellow JRPGS that are released with all the fancy bells and whistles in modern times :(

Hm, you haven't been keeping up with the news? Lost Odyssey is having a couple twists in it's combat system. Yes, it's still turn based, but it's got some other twists like a wall system, and timing based analog trigger system for physical attacks. If you're still interested in Lost Odyssey, I think you should read what changes they made.

Was watching some movies so its 3am and I'm too slack to look it up now but I'll give it a go later. I dunno about this 'wall system' but the other system you described seems like that guntrigger nonsense FF8 had. I'm sure a JRPG purist will express at length how that 'totally' revolutionises the (imo) stale combat systems in these games but to me its just an added gimmick. They could do a grid based combat system like Enchanted Arms or apply a grid to the entire world and have the combat on location like a cross between chronno trigger and FF: Tactics or even do the slight movement thing that Grandia did but no.. its the same ol' thing with added button pressing at certain times. Maybe I'm just jaded but I'm not impressed.
I'll look up the features you mentioned to see if its a guntrigger-esque thing or not but I don't have my hopes up for much :/

Sorry about spelling and grammer but like I said, its 3am. I'll look this stuff up tommorows ;)

Same. I just hope this one doesn't slip into the fiscal year, or I'll be sad. :(
