a good game. I spent alot of time with it last night, and I must say I like it alot. All the negative things I've read about this game never even crossed my mind once I started playing it. The load times were not bad at all for me. Battles took a couple seconds to load(4-6 secs), and if there were any framerate issues....I didnt even notice. The dreams are very well written and add alot of depth to the character. As for the random battles....in some places I could have used more. People like me (I'm 25) who grew up of the FF's of old will have no problem with this game. Try going through a cave on the moon in FF2 for snes and see how far you get before you want to kill the nearest living thing. And running away....not an option when you drop 30 G's WORTH OF GOLD!!! Anyway, in conclusion, fans of jrpg's will more than likely be able to take alot out of this game experience. I highly recommend it.

PS. Uematsu has delivered once again. That is all.

The true Turn based RPG's as of late are REALLY punishing you for running from battles now,

Enchanted Arms cost you HUGE VP for running and now LO is costing major green.

Better than any other turn based RPG since FF10 on any system. So far it seems a little better than FF10, but in many ways feels very similar to it. The changes in the mechanics of the gameplay compliment it just enough to make it feel a little fresher. The game doesn't allow you to power grind for too long so the difficulty is a little higher, which makes it a little better balanced. The story and characters are more interesting than anything I've seen since FF7. If this game had Bahumat in it I would forget Square forever.

I thought it was funny how there is a character named "Sed" who I think is a pilot or captain or something.( I quickly flipped through the manual). Kinda similar to the Cid that is in every FF game.

As far as this being your first jrpg....its hard to say if you'll like it. I would rent it first and see.

I know what you mean, jmartin. X was not one of my favorites, but i guess b/c this isnt FF, along with the new mechanics, I already like this much more than X.

tc im like you 23 played lots of rpgs ..so running isnt an option so i guess you never really have to run? cus running is a very old but good strategy its just not needed ? or are you wishing to run alot but cant because of the penalty.. ? please comment thanks

This game is easyly the best jrpg since FFX. Game spot and well everywhere are under rateing this game, and it make meh kinda of sad. The so called technical issues arent even notice able,(but, im guessin if you play on a 360 that you have ad since te came out it mte be a bit differnt). Which is why i think gamespot says the technical issues are so bad, is because there play on 360's that are used everyday since the 360 has come out. This is a must get for anyone that loves rpg's and anyone wanting to try one. Im just sad the people are hating on it because it a troditional jrpg that is turned based with a linear story.... *sigh*

i agree and i dont know why they said long load times there is alot of loading but its extremely short hell i actually would like to see the load screen but it dosent last long enough and no frame rate probs here either great story and good combat i cant see why it got 7.5 its only because its an jrpg

Lol i feel for you but sadly i think this for the good. The original 360's are slower than the new ones. I have had 2 360's die and then i sold mine to my bro. I then went and baught one of the new ones with hdmi. I runs eveything faster and downloads everthing faster. So i think if you still have one of the original 360's your framerate and load times problems would be greater.

Technically it does have minor issues. During some in-game cut scenes the framerate does drop a good bit, but not as bad as th in-game cut scenes in Gears of War. I doesn't hamper the expeirence. As for the load times, I've been playing for 3 hours and haven't run into any noticable load times over 5-10 seconds, and even those don't happen but every couple of minutes. Also the review said that the intros to the fights sequences were way to long. They are about 3-5 seconds long, so I wouldn't have even noticed if I hadn't read the review first. Get this game. If not for you then for me. You will be my friend if you buy this game. BFF. Love you. XOXOXO

This is a very cliched very derivative game. Like all JRPGs are, and most other games. You can only shoot an alien so many times for so many reasons (*cough Halo cough*).

The point is that it is a well made game with a great cast of characters, a good plot, music, quality graphics and a solid combat system. Everything isn't good, not is it superb, but just great. So it's not groundbreaking, but clearly a game worth playing, I'm glad I went to get my copy last night.

7.5 might be a little low, and Kevin Van Ord definetely blew the techncal issues out of the water (like he did with Mass Effect), but it's not a 9.0 game. Solid 8 to 8.5 for sure though.

Second best RPG this generation behind Mass Effect.

I was also expecting some significant framerates issues but were hardly noticable.Load times aren't as bad as they say.I'm very happy with the game.I really liked Blue Dragon and this one is even better.I don't know how they didn't get a higher score bc that almost steer me away from these great game. Now Chrono Trigger for the 360?

to geof

The only times i ever ran away in rpgs that I can recall were times when I forgot to heal after a battle and almost got killed or something like that...fighting bosses underleveled can be a pain, so I never really did. Oh and I was talking about the penalty for running away on old games like ff2, also.

Enchanted Arms got a 7.0

Eternal Sonata got a 8.5

Lost Oddyssey gets a 7.5?

Feels like a 9ish to me, but then again, I don't have a PHD in game reviewing. I guess I'll just leave it to the professionals.

Naw someone must have been drunk or angry to give it a score like that.

The graphics are.. eh.. some of the time, and other times they're pretty good. Alot of the character animations seem stiffer than they should, especially after playing DMC4. I mean, Seth's hair is just horrible.

The load times are not an issue, like every reviewer is saying. I'm thinking the review build is buggy. I've not waited longer than 5 seconds for a battle to give me menu commands. Only seen a few frame-rate hitches. Some of the music getsrepetitive, but the battle music is pretty good. The voices are well done, so far. The 1000 years of dreams stories are better than I thought they'd be, and touch well on the subject of immortality. Giving me Planescape jitters..

Jansen is awesome, Kaim is a dick, Seth is annoying.. in a good JRPG girl way. Kaim runs like a retard Got it yesterday, the packaging was almost insulting, but nonetheless, I've played 6 hours already. Heh. Little upset you cant grind, but I'm glad it's more difficult than JRPGs have tended to be lately. All in all, it's better than a 7.5, easily, (even if the technical problems were as bad as GS said, it still wouldn't deserve a 7.5). Easily the best JRPG I've played since Dragon Quest VIII/FFX.

Seth's hair is pretty bad, you're right. But I've not seen a lot of problems with animation smoothness.

Where did you see your frame rate problem? I saw it ONCE in the opening fight with all of the Khent soldiers.

Mainly during the intro. It wasn't a huge dip, not even really enough to call it a stutter, but it was a slowdown. Uh.. when they were getting off the 'trucks' right before you enter the capital city of Uhra, and they did the picture in picture with Seth and Kaim. That's one that comes to mind.

I got this yesterday, I'm about 3 hours in but so far I have noticed some framerate hitches in the in game cutscenes. The load times are fine though. So far its stacking up to be a pretty awesome game.
