I think Mass Effect is amazing, but admitedly its not going to be everybodies cup of tea, buggy and frustrating at time, but its still one of my favourite games, Gears is amazing but short as hell, and aside from playing splitscreen after completing singleplayer, there isnt much else to do, unless your big into online duals, if your only picking a game for single player id pick Mass Effect over gears.
Lost Odyssey i have no idea, lots of people on these forums say its great, its certainly on my must buy list, i just haven't got around to picking it up yet, so i cant give my opinion on it.
Well, you're talking about 3 completely different games. All good, IMO, but if you want a good idea of what to go with...
Gears of War:
Good: Third person shooter, gory as he**, and just as good
Bad: Only a few hours long, but multiplayer and three different difficulties offer more options
Mass Effect:
Good: Third person shooter, great storyline, has both sci-fi and romantic elements to complement for those who want more romance...Anywhere from 15-30 hours long, with replay value in New Game + giving you your items and currency.
Bad: Controls can be a bit shoddy in combat, and you have to be patient and investigative in your travels during the first couple of hours before you get going.
Lost Odyssey:
Good: Japanese RPG. Intriguing combat, amazing storyline, characters have their own unique aspects (no cliches for the most part). Anywhere from 35-50 hours long. Also has New Game +.
Bad: Those who have ancient 360s may have to be patient with loading times (average of 5-15 seconds, depending on 360 and battle or area transition)
gears of war buddy

lost odyssey is overated, i hear mass effect is okay...but gears is a proven champion

Lost Odyssey overrated? Umm, last time I checked it recieved scores of 6, 7, 8 categories. Even scores as low as 5. If anything it was underrated. This game is truly amazing. I dont think you have played and completed the game, because I'm sure you would say otherwise. 100% of the people that own this game that I've come across really enjoyed it.
Mass Effect is another great game. If you're into shooter/RPG hybrids with a huge storyline along with tons of dialogue, then this game is for you. There are noticeable technical issues in the game concerning graphics. Framerate issues, buggy squad command, terrible UI interface with only one hotkey, bad inventory system, long elevator rides that is actually a loading screen. It starts off really slow then picks up towards the middle to the end of the game.
If someone ask me to fork over 2 games, and I only had Gears of War, LO, and Mass Effect, I would hand him over LO and Mass Effect. My favorite Xbox 360 game is still Gears of War. There is plenty of things to do in Gears of War. Single player campaign on three difficulty settings, online or local co-op mode (very fun), multiplayer online which is addicting and fun.
If I were you though, I would buy all of them. Maybe not all at the same time, but spread it around. Pick the one appeals to you the most and work your way down the list. And dont pass up on some of the big hit titles in 2007.
I spend 30+ hours on Mass Effect and it was a great game but it can be boring at times because of the dialogue and the side quests are similar but the main quest and storyline is one of the best compared to other jrpgs i've played (Xenogears, FF Tactics, FF7, and Chrono Trigger)
I want to try lost odyssey as i've heard many good things about this game so if you're really into jrpg like ff7 then go for LO but otherwise get Mass Effect from ebay as they are about $40 after shipping and etc...
only people that get lost odyssey have been dying to play a jrpg for a long long time.....so they are a little biased on the game i think
its okay....nothing im gonna buy
gears rules still
