Im a big RTS fan, and play a few on the computer. Its only 30$ so I was wondering if it played well on the 360, and whether it had enough content to warrant a purchase over a rent.

Anyone who's played it, tell me your thoughts on it please.

From what i remember it played well for a console RTS, a lot better than the previous attempts at it. Once you get the hang of the controls its a fun game, as for the content, i cant really say much as i didnt have live at the time for anything download able but the story seemed long enough to me.

Thats okay, I only do action games on live. I was looking for more of a single player experience. When I ment content, I was meaning play options. I read the review, but sometimes like an average gamers veiw. Is their plenty of skirmish maps, and does the AI make them enjoyable?

There is a nice amount of maps and more you can download over XBL. The AI is good when you crack the difficulty up, they sure can throw huge armies at you!

the game flows well and follows the trilogy pretty well, but the only thing is the achievements. there are lots of them, but they are really low. two are actually 0! but the main thing is that they still have 295 achievement points they could have used. that a lot of achievement points wasted.

I would rather get a PC RTS, the controls are good but still to much hassel to what they should be. And with LOTR the framerate is very poor, individual units can get muddled together, there isnt much depth to the combat and all in all wasnt that entertaining by the middle of the game.

Poor Frame Rate draged it down for me. But I did like the controls, just wait for C&C. Never played it vs the CPU or Story mode, whats the fun of playing a stratigy game agianst CPU AI.

Have you tried the demo? If not, check it out. The control scheme is actually really good IMO, amazing for a console RTS. Right now I'm waiting to rent it from my online rental service, its #1 on my list.

The controls are very good for a console RTS. However, the PC version is loads better of this specific game. (I do have both) For one thing, if your computer is good, then you won't experience the frame-rate drops and short freezes the 360 does. Also, they excluded the "War of the Ring" mode from the 360 version, which would have added loads of single player replayability. The graphics can be toned up on the PC version and therefore it will look better. I've written a review for this game actually, if you want any more info on it, check out my review.

one thing other than the achievements that wrong with the game is the blocky shadow. i mean it is the xbox 360, surely they could have had better shadows.

Yes, there are some massive framerate issues on this one. If you can play it on your PC, I would suggest doing that instead. Otherwise it's good enough to warrant the $30.
