Hey guys, for those of you who still play Oblivion, I have a question for you.  I have a level 13 Redguard.  He uses mainly stealth and magic to kill his enemies.  I also try to use a bow as often as I can.  I use light armor and single-handed weapons with enchants that deal extra damage.  I have been loving my time playing Oblivion until I realized that my difficulty setting was set on very low.   I put it back to the default setting and found that the game was suddenly extremely difficult.  I have no problem with difficult games but something about almost dying whenever I try to attack a single skeleton with a powerful enchanted sword and a sneak attack bonus doesn't seem right.  I had this same problem on my last character.  The game is simply not enjoyable until the difficulty is set to about 1/4 of the bar.  I know I should probably just play the game on easy but it doesn't feel right to me.  Has anyone had this problem?  What could I be doing wrong?  Is the game simply not made to support sneaky or destruction magic characters?
By the way, don't tell me I suck at the game.  I have played many types of games since I was very young and I am sure I can play Oblivion just as well as the next guy.
Thanks

hmm, don't know what to tell you. i've been playing with my bar right in the middle, and that seems to work out well enough for me. i'm a lvl 9 thief, right now, for whatever that's worth.

The only thing thats really hard to play in oblivion IMO is a mage type class. everything else is quite easy.

Is the enemy AI scaleable? I don't remember, but if it is, it will probably be extra difficult for a while until it adjusts to your playing style. I could be on crack though, it's been a while since I've played.

Maybe there's something weirdabout changing difficulty when you're further along in the game, which makes it harder than it's supposed to be. If you're not too attached to your character or not too far in, I'd really suggest starting over at default level--it's levels up nicely enough that most people can handle default. that way, you''et a better idea of how hard/easy the game's really supposed to be. Mind you, there are a few tough places, quests, enemies, that you may have to wait to beat, or just find the strategy that works for them.

i have a similar character as you do and i have my difficulty bar set in the middle and it really hasn't been much of a problem for me. you have to find out each enemies weakness and use the appropriate spell. also try using more powerful spells if you can.

That's odd, because usually the game is only hard right at the beginning. My guy is level 51 and I can set the difficulty all the way up and still not have any problems unless there's multiple enemies...

Raise your endurance so you don't die as fast.

EDIT- Oh, I just realized something. Since you have been playing the game for so long on a lower difficulty, your character isnt as good as it's suppose to be. You might as well make a new character and not change the difficulty at all so your character is used to the enemies at a normal difficulty.

I have one character who is a lv. 8 khajiit the difficulty setting is set to the hardest setting. Im making him a fast runner cause you usually die within 2-3 hits, so it's almost imposible to fight but it makes it challanging. The most frustrating time i had with tihs guy is the sewers at the beginning of the game cause a rat could kill you in one hit and i had to find a spot where it could not reach me and try to kill it with a bow. it almost took me 9 hours to get through! so if you ever consider playing it on the hardest difficulty, play it on medium during the sewers then turn it to the hardest. and if you wanted you could just do wat i did haha.
