Has anyone heard accounts of the new Elites malfunctioning yet?

Kind of too early to tell. Seems Microsoft only makes the systems to last 1 year before they fail, so lets give them a bit to see how the failure rate on those go.-ZeRoHouR-That is one of the dumbest things Ihave read here. Microsoft does not manufacture anything, ok. /thread.

wow, just wow...dont even know were to start with these statements
Consoles were breaking because of heat issues and the GPU's were coming apart from the motherboards. Microsoft has addressed this and are building the consoles differently now. It's not a conspiracy. No need to get your panties in a bundle.jacksheets
True statement, but even they have acknowledged that new soldering is not perfect and still can have problems. I can't remember what they switched over to but it's not the be all end all fix. But again I think you have a good point.

Right, it's still not a perfect solution. Supposedly if they switch to the new chips in the future (possibly fall) they will produce less heat and even further fix the problem.
I've seen elite with 3 red of rings. Some guy posted it here after its release about 3 days UGAH
Anything can malfunction or break, even Elites. Sometimes it's a year later, sometimes it's the day after you bought it. It's consumer electronics people, not rocket science.

wow... my xbox360 died after 4 months of use...
And yet my ps2 has lasted 6+ years without death and i still play
Yes its consumer electronics, but there wont be many consumers if xboxs die in shorter time frames than the rest of their gaming consoles.
I dunno about you but i dont feel like dishing out 500$ for a new console every year

i had a ps2 at launch. that damn thing could not play a dvd movie for anything. to me it didnt matter but it should have worked properly. i then remember, what a few years later, that sony admitted to having trouble and IF you had your reciept they would exchange or fix it. also how many designs of the ps2 were there?4? they obviously figured out better ways to do things as well. thruth is microsoft is a WAY better customer friendly company than sony, from my experience. no way they want thier names in the same sentance as faulty hardware or red rings of death. i have had two 360s go back, i have the warranty through micorsoft, and they took great care of me. that may have been the best 60 dollar / 3 year!!warranty i ever bought.
When i got my 360 I ran home to put the Memory from my old 360 onto the new one. I used an XSATA Device... and it bricked my HDD.
I took it in telling them that the HDD wouldnt' work when I got it and they said that other people's weren't working either. Regional problem they said.

mine freezes maybe once or twice every two days or so. i dont know if its the game or my elite. because my games are new and so is the elite.
mine was DOA no less than 3 hours of having it. elites are most likely no more reliable than any other 360. I have pics to prove it too.

yeah, i got the error 74 with my last one. hmmm e 71 i got look that one up.
yeah, i got the error 74 with my last one. hmmm e 71 i got look that one up.F1sTDaCuffSI was getting e79 to e69 and other Eec.. then it got to the point where it was just dead compleatly, with the white screen. I tryed taking the hdd off, unplug everything then hook it back up andnothing worked.I guess you can call me unlucky, or call the 360 a great system, with cheap labor to build its systems.
Zerohour get over yourself, and I'll believe you're in the army when I'm president of Guatamala. First off, how could Microsoft make it so that consoles broke immediately following their warranty expiration? That's why it's a WARRANTY, it broke after the warranty right, well it lived through its initial life span correct? Second, I respect that you don't care what other people think or say, but apparently you do or you wouldn't have stayed on this thread waiting for someone to comment and you wouldn't have posted back in paragraph long statements either. To answer the main question, no the Elite doesn't malfunction atas high a rate asa normal 360. But even now normal 360s work just fine ever since they bumped up the soldering on the motherboard. everyone that says the 360 is still an iffy peice of hardware needs to notice that there aren't very many NEWS POSTS (not forum threads, because who knows what some people do to their consoles)regarding the issue.

you said it perfectly
I got an Elite the day they came out, it has worked perfectly, no probs at all, (had 3 Premiums brick on me though). And MS has extended the warranties to 2 years so anyone who says that the 360 is "manufactured" to break after a year shouldn't be taken with any kind of credibility whatsoever.
And to those who talk about how reliable PS2's were, there's 2 things you should know; PS2's were breaking down like CRAZY when they first launched, much worse than any other system launch in history, (and I've been around since the Atari so I've seen it all), and secondly, systems nowadays use many more parts & many more sophisticated partsthan systems back in the day so obviously more parts = more chance of something going wrong. Class dismissed...
