Developers didn't have enough time.  Better a delay than releasing a crappy non-finished title.  Expecially at $60 a pop.

Do you meet every single deadline at your job? It happens sometimes..let it go.

I dont....but the game industry misses more then half of they re deadlines ...thats grounds for termination. Dont set dates if you cant meet them....just leave then as TBA

Majesco sold the darkness to another company so that will add to the development time, and I don't remember alan wake ever having a release date.

These games were never announced at these dates. Gamestop.com and ebgames.com have just given numerous announced 360 games generic dates.

Then 90% of the games will have a TBA and you won't know what your looking for. Most of these dates are set on a schedule but as with a lot of programming things don't always work the way you want. Thus throwing the schedule off, but most publishers don't change the release date till like the last 3 months before release. At least with a release date I can say oh they delayed it... but its not gonna be like a year delay maybe 3-6 months I'm perfectly fine.

Because that way they (EB games, gamestop, etc) can sucker us into pre-ordering the game. Reality is, when your dealing with software then schedules can slip. This is made much worse when the platform you are programming for is both brand new, and significantly different from any earlier platform (specifically the multi-threaded processor, but there are other issues). Also, as strange as it sounds, throwing more people (and money) at the project can actually make things worse. Rather than working on the project, the people who know what they are doing are getting the new people up-to-speed. And that assumes that the developer has the resources to throw at the project, without delaying another project. Throw on past-deadline pressures and things get worse. So, that leaves developers with 2 options: 1: Finsh the project ASAP, and cut every corner to get it out the door. Anyone who has played KOTOR 2 knows this, as the story suddenly goes to crap... and the hardware was buggy. 2: Finsh the game as it was intended, release date be damned. This can, unfortunatly lead to the Unreal syndrome. A few people may remember that game kept getting delayed, and delayed, and delayed. They kept adding features, but it took absolutly forever. I think it slipped for over a year. That said, the end result was enough to merit several sequals. Now, I can accept the occasional option 1 game... and reviews are usually good at letting us know when the game is option 1 (or a crappy option 2). But I prefer to be patient... especially if the cost of games keeps going up.
