mass effect 2 help and question

I just picked up mass effect 2 and loving it... just one question on the DLC cerberus network.. on the description on xbox live says you can recruit a new team mate and get some other stuff like armor and weapons. Are they readily avaible once you complete the download or have to find them in game?

You find them through the game, usually as part of an extra mission

You get an e-mail for each DLC. All armor and weapons will be delivered to the Normandy, while you'll have to go to a certain place to find squaddies and missions (the e-mails tell you where)
