Wow. Check out the new Mass Effect screenshots. They are, in a word, incredible. I thought GOW was gorgeous, and I know Mass Effect uses the Unreal engine as well, but this is so much better than I ever would have thought. The detail on the charcters blows any other game out there away. I guess there are 3 effects possible. 1: Maybe the 360 is hella more powerful than anyone gave it credit for (i.e. GOW used only 60% of its power, here's the proof). 2: RPGs are finally deciding that graphics do matter (just look at the differences in quality from KOTOR to Mass Effect and Morrowing to Oblivion in relation to contemporary games). 3: This could be trouble for Halo 3 when the beta comes out if the graphics aren't on par with these screens (although I personally think this criticism is overhyped).Â
one thing I've learned in life is to not go by screenshots. There touched up no matter what system. Screw the graphics I heard these are the guys that made KOTOR. If thats true, its a definite buy, Those guys make some deep games
Totally agreed. I'm saying that the screens look better than GOW, and the only real complaint on KOTOR was its graphics (and not my complaint, either). No doubt this game will be fantastic from start to finish in terms of gameplay quality.
They look amazing no doubt, but I don't know if they'll be considered the very best in history...but still Mass Effect is guaranteed triple A, I'm getting it for certain.
There will always be something better. Graphics seem to have no limit (unless you count photo-realism) that being said, Mass Effect is the best looking RPG I've ever seen and I look forward to playing it.
The graphics of Mass Effect are really shaping up. You might consider it better looking because the color scheme is a lot more vibrant than GeOW which uses more muted and dull colors to depict the run down state of the world. Both games look very good.. I will, however, dispute your notion of the 360's power and something using 60% as opposed to 72% or whatever. There is very little a gamer can do to determine how much of a processors power an application is using without being the person who actually coded that application. So it is usually best to leave those things to the professionals. Also, KOTOR (I presume you're talking for the XBOX) was designed to the best it could be given the power of the XBOX which in comparison to the 360 was really lacking. So that really isn't a fair comparison..

When I saw the first vids on Mass Effect on Marketplace it looked descent considering it had alright graphics. Now that you say it will be like KOTOR I know it will be complete garbage like the other KOTOR games...

expect its beta and people expect the graphics to be sub or on par. and btw post this topic when that game come out. btw it's gameplay over graphics. a durhhhh

"the other kotor games" ? there have only been two....
It looks nice, the framerate the last time I saw it was bad though, we should be getting at least a locked 30fps, any slower and I will be let down, nothing worse then a game with bad framerate looking like a slideshow.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the one thing to really really really watch in this game and the trailers right now are the facial animations. In terms of displaying actual emotion and matching speech this game has done more in it's pre-beta form than I have seen any other game ever do, it's amazing to see the little details come to life on a CG character. Everything else seems to be "there" already, except some of the frame rate issues as previously mentioned, however considering this game is still (probably) a few months away from being optimized, you can't really do much other than voice a little concern.
