Right, I have completely run out of games to play - I even got bored of CoD4. Terrible I know.

So, I'm mainly into shooters, but I thought Mass Effect looked pretty cool, and I've been wanting to get my hands on a decent RPG for a while, but I'm not into all that olde world magical stuff like oblivion.

Anyway, my question is, as a fan of shooters, will i just get POed with the RPG combat system in ME? Or is it not as bad as I imagine it being..

please don't post if you're just gonna say "zOMG ME teh pwn", I would like some genuine input here.

thanks in advance guys and guy-ettes.

I have played ME and beat it twice, you might like it if your main game is shooters, but I dont suggest getting it unless you dont mind talking to characters alot and alot of character upgrading, etc..

its more of an adventure game than a shooter, i have had it for 2 months and have not beat it yet just because it was not a great shooter. After playing Gears of war, Halo and COD4 i found that the guns were not very interesting, and there are many other games out there that i liked a lot better for shooting games than Mass Effect

You sound just like me well a MP whore but yea I bought Mass Effect for it's rave reviews and i got tired of the team fortress and gears of war mp but when I played it I got through one level and went back to Gears but one thing that really caught me is the storytelling and the character customization I didn't leave it because it was boring but because as sad it is I have low attention Span and got stuck on part so if you enjoy great story and a lenghty game definitely get it .

It's not a game to get if you are just looking for a shooter.

The same happened to me before a little while ago (before I got COD4). I found Quake 4 for $20 and thought "what the heck". I didn't have big expectations as I've read mixed reviews. However, as a shooter fan, I was extremely pleased and had a blast. This game is extremly long and. It starts kinda slow, but then it picks up quickly and it gets better and better as the levels progress. It's definitely far better than Halo (more challenging and much longer). So if you haven't played this yet, it will be a good game to play until some new great FPS' come out.

I will say I was very dissapointed with the game. If you are expecting a fun shooter you will be also. It has a good plot with terrific voice acting and is fairly indepth, but it is repetetive and it has a huge emphasis on its gameplay which is very mediocre.

I wouldnt say it's a shooter. More like a space opera. It was definitely more like action-adventure/shooter/RPG. I hardly used any of the guns. I stuck to abilities like warp, throw, basically the biotic weaponry. It was a lot more fun watching your enemy get hurled into the air in slow motion then to shoot them down with your sniper. Boy, like I never sniped someone down before. I avoided using typical weapons like guns. But there were some occasions where I had to pull out the pistol or sniper. I stuck around for the story and dialogue. I wanted to see how my choices of words affected my path in the game. And surely it did, to some degree. You can build relationships with your squad members and determine different outcomes for each. I'm not going to mention any spoilers, buy the game and find out for yourself. It's definitely worth the buy, and I highly recommend despite its technical flaws. It's still a superb game, AAA title. You just learn to look pass the technical difficulties, that dont really hinder the gameplay experience. Is it a must-buy? Heck yeah. Would I recommend it? Of course.

If you like shooters and RPGs then Mass effect is definately a game youi should get. It has a lot of shooter like elements in it, especially if you use the soldier class. If you have even a little interest in RPG's you will love it.

ME is kind of slow paced, and from what you have said about your tastes, i'd predict that ME would be too boring for you. For example, there is a lot of dialogue, which is essential for the gaming experience, and ontop of that, the fighting is more strategic and slower paced than most first person shooters. So, i don't think you would like it, but that is just based on what you have said thus far.

If thinkings not your thing and you're more of the mindless shooter type of gamer (as is evident by your original post) you may wanna steer clear of anything that involves using your brain like ME or reading books.

there is a lot of lag and loading in this game. the combat system will probably frustrate you so much (it's sad when using a pistol is the best choice for a gun). the assault rifle has atrocious accuracy, after like 10 shots your shots will be going almost anywhere on the screen. mass effect is basically a movie that you get to control a little bit, so be expected for a ton of dialogue (probably over half the game). i have also bored of CoD4. i'd recommend you get Lost Odyssey if you want a good rpg, assuming you like JRPG. if not, def just wait until R6V2 as that is the best shooter coming out for a while.

An American RPG from an Canadian developer, in a genre invented in Europe..... Hey, maybe that's why they call it WRPG instead of American RPG ;)

Well, technically Canada is in North America so you were right in calling it an American RPG from the get go! If it was made in Mexico, Argentina or Chile etc it would still be an American RPG... Central/South American. Yanks always assume "America" is all about the United States!

Anyways, back to the question, I've played ME through twice and am about 60% through a third time (Adept this time) and I think you will really like this game from what you've said you are looking for. It has A LOT of LONG gaps in the action if you go through all the conversation variables and side missions (I suggest you do this first time through) but if you just power through the game the action comes more often and it increases in intensity and length as you move through the game... early fights seem to end quite quick.

You said you want an RPG and this is a good one... add in the shooter element and I think this is the game you are looking for. Enjoy it for what it is rather than wanting it to be something it isn't.

Mass effect is not a shooter in any way. The system is confuse (but cool) for a shooter fast f** paced lex: RE4. got it? The system is damn complicated, you have to stop all the time to choose wich item or wich dumb partner you have to take care on and stuff. If you just wanna kill, try some old xbox games.

I would say no because the focus isn't on the shooting, but on the story line, characters, and leveling.
