I absolutely love the game. If you liked the KOTOR series you will definitely like it as it plays similarly but with more depth than those games did.
There are as people have pointed out some minor tech issues - like jerkiness ocassionally while running around and having to ride an elevator for 20 seconds to get to a destination. Overall though these things are very minor.
The game is a must play for any SciFi fan or RPG fan.
Now that Mass Effect has been out for awhile and with the new DLC . I want to know if it is really good or alot of hype .I want some honest opinions and observations about the game. twobad4uI thought it was alittle over the top with way too many cut scences and the most dialogue Heavy game I have played, I love RPG's but Mass went alittle far in those to catagories, you gotta have balance that keeps the game fun, Mass Effect failed
It's a good game not great IMO. It had a great story, but some of what was going to be in the game wasn't. like being able to change to any squad member at anytime was taken out. that would have been a cool addition.
Also, the character creation could have been better. the frame rate was bad when playing it on hardcore/insanity mode. it's still a game worth playing and i enjoyed it.
Mass Effect starts off slow and it picks up the speed towards the end. But saying Mass Effect is anything lower than a 9.0 game would just be downright wrong. Aside from the technical issues like framerate, bugs and glitches, bad user interface with only one hotkey, and a messy inventory system, ME would have garnered higher ratings. To me, it isnt a hyped game, but a rightfully deserved fame. Do not expect going into Mass Effect, with the Gears of War approach, if you do you'll be greatly disappointed. It contains tons of dialogue, and I would say it's more story focused, than anything else. I highly recommend it.
I just got Mass Effect last week and I can say imo that the game is really good. Apart from a few really annoying bugs the game is a must play. It has the best dialogue system that I have ever seen in a video game, I really felt like I had alot of control over what my character said and how he acted. Great game I would suggest it
This may possibly be the greatest game I've played so far (hopefully that changes on Apr. 29th) and I hate rpg's. FF7 sucked imo (arms flameshield) and that was the first and last rpg i played before ME (this is relevant because it turned me off to rpg's all together) This game made me feel like the first time I watched star wars and just said "wow". I was taken aback at the scale of this game and all the stuff that was contained. It had awesome dialogue, a great and epic story, characters that you actually cared about and were interested in among volumes of other things.
I love how you are given an entire galaxy to explore and though you can really only land on one planet per system I still enjoyed reading about the other planets. And to those complaining about how boring the planets were, I doubt you would go to any other planet in the universe and find a baren planet that looks like the bahamas. what do you expect, these are baren, undiscovered planets, ofcourse they are mountainous and boring. THe gunplay and biotics were awesome too but the interface left a lot to be desired. I got to stop now or I'll never stop. Buy this game now.
* The gameplay is merely average. I found the biotic powers boring and unnecessary and left them to my party members to use. They all seemed to do nothing except delay the inevitable - just shooting the enemy accomplished the same goal much faster and with less fuss. The gunplay is just okay. There's nothing re/evolutionary about it, you've seen it all before. Bane_v2
I agree with most of what Bane said(some very valid arguments) except for this. I had the most fun when using biotics extensively and found them to be necessary in many situations on the insanity setting. While its been used in games before I apreciate the cover system and found it to work well and am glad the included it as a gameplay aspect. Keep in mid its an RPG and your stats affect your accuracy while shooting.
I've put more hours into Mass Effect than any other game on the 360. Despite its many flaws I consider it to be one of the best titles available on the system. Its the only game I've enjoyed playing enough to go back and get all the gamerpoints.
