I recently got a 360, and have been dying to get Mass Effect, given it's immense popularity. Lately though, I've been hearing increasingly negative comments on it, one flatout calling it terrible.

So, I ask you, is Mass Effect worth it? Reasons as to why or why not would be appreciated.

Of course it is worth it. You always ignore naysayers unless everyone is a naysayer.

Perhaps it is best if I list the positives and negatives I've heard.

Positive: Amazing story, HUUUGE world, morale system that's less 'good or evil' like KOTOR, and stunning worlds/characters.

Negative: Some have said it's tedious, and that there are hardly any indicators on controller button functions.

I got it on Friday. I think it starts off really really slow and the story is kind of boring. I should have played this before Bioshock.

Mass Effect is worth buying! Lots of fun, addicting, Revolutionary graphics, and lots to do! There are a few things you have to watch out for though. For Example, since the graphics look very real, during the game play there might be a few lags or fps drops but that doesnt ruin the whole game. Visit my profile and read my blog about Mass Effect.

Well, if you've played the KOTOR games and enjoyed them, i would say its definitely worth it.

The world is pretty big, although not as big as it might first seem since theres only one planet from each system you can actually visit. You can kinda tell they just put some stuff into the game just for the sake of having more stuff to do, like finding artifacts on uncharted worlds, which has no effect on the game at all. Also exploring uncharted worlds is pretty boring, the only reason i continued after i landed on the first one was because i wanted to get new stuff. its pretty boring trying to explore the whole place in your MAKO vehicle, stopping in random spots to survey minerals/find artifacts. Plus they made the ground so rocky and mountainous, you see a lot of jaggies in the graphics and trying to manuever the mako can be a pain in the butt on really steep hills. Adding to that, pretty much every part of the game where you're in the MAKO sucks. i hate that thing. its extremely hard to hit anything.

The graphics are also amazing, although some character models look pretty bad compared to others... the motion blur can look kinda weird sometimes too. Definitely keep the grain filter on, it gives the game a nice worn look. There's also a LOT of hitches in the frame rate, even when you're just running around the frames can sometimes completely stop for a second, although it never really has an impact on the gameplay.

The combat gameplay is a great improvement over the old KOTOR style turn based combat, since you have complete control, yet still making it hard enough that you are encouraged to pause and coordinate all your character's attacks. Also the more calm parts of the story are still really fun, because the way they made conversation so realistic just makes you feel like you're really there, and sucks you in.

The story (as far as i've gotten) is great, the main storyline is long and engaging and definitely the best part of the game, but the side stories and missions are still really fun to take part in. overall the game is pretty awesome, and i'd recommend it to anyone.

I actually jumped on this forum to talk about how much I dislike the game. It was very tedious to me. I just finished the first section "The Citadel" and it never clicked for me. I think my problem may be more with the style of game than the game itself.

The graphics are amazing. I spent time just looking around at things, it's that pretty.

The main story seems interesting. The side stories are a snooze. Sadly I'm one of those people that feels like they have to do everything in a game so I was bored.

Combat seemed unpolished, especially in the vehicle.

I enjoyed the game. The lest fun I had in this game was driving the mako. The dialog is generally well written (never really like Kaiden's delevery) The story is great and if it seems slow now just wait until you finish the fourth main planet (virmire). Essentially the story is what you make it. If you didn't enjoy the narrative you picked dialog choices that weren't to your liking.

Definitely its worth it. Though it has some flaws (like all games) it has great replay value. I haven't finished it yet but I'm already excited of creating a new toon, or even play the same character getting it to a higher level.

I got it on Friday. I think it starts off really really slow and the story is kind of boring. I should have played this before Bioshock.StreetRacer91

For Alexander, though what he said is true, its really a good start for this game. Lots of side quests if you're interested in doing those but has less enemy encounters compared when you go straight in doing the main quests but doing those will help you level and give you a pretty good start.

Great game, one major annoyance is the framerate through, its terrible, certain missions when you are fighting a lot of enemies are unbelievably bad, dunno how it got past trading standards like that actually, not bad all the way through, but certain missions towards the end are terrible for it :S
