I looked past the tech issues. The GAME is phenomenal. Developers should take notes of Biowares masterpiece. If they nix the tech issues in the next 2 games they have a clear cut cult followed classic.painpas
Oblivion is in another league than ME. And i played and loved both.
The game is fantastic, I can't stop playing it. But the technical issues are spot on, too many glitches and bugs. This game could have used more time to fix these issues but for me, they don't ruin the experience. milsvaardQFT.
I love the game, but the tech issues and poor save system really add up and take a byte out of the overall experience.
The game could sure use some improvements such as the planet layout, the insides of caves and bunkers used the same 5 tiles... there were only about 4 non sentient species in the whole universe...
when i landed on one planet and saw 6 legged cowdeer... i was wondering what other creatures i'd see, but throughout the game there were only those, the gas things, the monkeys and crabs...and those insects, wolf things and thrasher maws... but i expected a lot more.
What I think is most innovative is how the story catered to a set of decisions you made at character customization and the fact that this game is a trilogy... if they use that technology to have Mass Effect 2 read my saved game and continue the story from the ending i received... I'll be amazed.

smerlus
i totally agree with you there smerlus. since there were many different things a player could've done in the game with character customization and the time spent on items let alone the ways you interacted with members of your own team and how you choose your words. there would need to be a way to load data from your first mass effect game into the second to have the game play work consistently
Mass effect is a great game but lke the elder scrolls series further sequels are were the game will shine
i expect ME2 to be a HUGE improvement
I think Mass Effect really had some amazing potential, but they missed the mark. The glitches, saving system, and the often-unforgiving combat system killed the experience for me. I played for about ten hours before moving on to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. I'll probably come back to ME though, because underneith all the annoyances is an awesome game. Despite all the issues though, I do agree with the OP that Mass Effect is a huge step in the right direction. With a bit more polish andstreamlined combat mechanics, I think the next game in the series could really be mind-blowing.
Assassins Creed is more Next-Gen then Mass Effect IMO.. the fact that Altair can climb just about anything 2 inches away from the wall and it's all done in Real-Time is amazing. Yeah the gameplay is lacking it's repetitive but it's brand new it's not just the same game with a new Title.cleotis_max
I own assasins creed to, and while its fun, its nto nearly as revolutionary as mass effect. And the missions/gameplay in assassins creed is all the same... same stuff each city. I really wish there was more variety in that game, along with a better story.
MAss Effect on the other hand has the best story ive ever seen in a game and amazing gameplay
