Gamespot is wrong about Mass Effect. This is the first truly next gen game that could not be done with the level immersion and graphics on previous consoles.

Your opinion is well taken. I oppose that due to the fact that I have not seen a more complete game that covers many genres in one game.

The game is fantastic, I can't stop playing it. But the technical issues are spot on, too many glitches and bugs. This game could have used more time to fix these issues but for me, they don't ruin the experience.

I looked past the tech issues. The GAME is phenomenal. Developers should take notes of Biowares masterpiece. If they nix the tech issues in the next 2 games they have a clear cut cult followed classic.

Next gen experience as in a low framerate, texture pop-in, and tons of glitches? And immersion as in huge, empty planets to explore?

Oblivion is still my favorite game. I can come back to that and just have fun walking, listening to repetitive banter and killing everything in sight. The game has depth. So doesMass effect though and I like how you converse with other NPCs in the game.

If ME is a Prototype, then I don't think I want to take part in Next Gen.. Whether it's the bad interface, or horrible cover system this game is not the first "next gen experience" it brought nothing to the rpg genre except conversations, hours of emotionless conversations. The game however fun.. at times can be put to shame in the visual department by games such as GeOW, Crysis and etc.

QFT.

I love the game, but the tech issues and poor save system really add up and take a byte out of the overall experience.

The game could sure use some improvements such as the planet layout, the insides of caves and bunkers used the same 5 tiles... there were only about 4 non sentient species in the whole universe...

when i landed on one planet and saw 6 legged cowdeer... i was wondering what other creatures i'd see, but throughout the game there were only those, the gas things, the monkeys and crabs...and those insects, wolf things and thrasher maws... but i expected a lot more.

What I think is most innovative is how the story catered to a set of decisions you made at character customization and the fact that this game is a trilogy... if they use that technology to have Mass Effect 2 read my saved game and continue the story from the ending i received... I'll be amazed.

smerlus

i totally agree with you there smerlus. since there were many different things a player could've done in the game with character customization and the time spent on items let alone the ways you interacted with members of your own team and how you choose your words. there would need to be a way to load data from your first mass effect game into the second to have the game play work consistently

I think Mass Effect really had some amazing potential, but they missed the mark. The glitches, saving system, and the often-unforgiving combat system killed the experience for me. I played for about ten hours before moving on to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. I'll probably come back to ME though, because underneith all the annoyances is an awesome game. Despite all the issues though, I do agree with the OP that Mass Effect is a huge step in the right direction. With a bit more polish andstreamlined combat mechanics, I think the next game in the series could really be mind-blowing.

Look at the game as a stepping stone people we've been gaming a long time and dissect any game but give credit where its due the game is great.

Not to mention the completely ASS gameplay when you have to fight something once every 4 hours of gameplay.

Assassins Creed is more Next-Gen then Mass Effect IMO.. the fact that Altair can climb just about anything 2 inches away from the wall and it's all done in Real-Time is amazing. Yeah the gameplay is lacking it's repetitive but it's brand new it's not just the same game with a new Title.

I agree with a good amount that has been said here. Personally, I absolutely love Mass Effect, it's my favortie game on the 360 so far. I also agree, however, that the game has it's issues such as framerate, texture pop-ins, bland side planents and lack of creatures or vegetation. I don't understand why people are complaining about the save system though, it autosaves before big events and gives you the ability to save whereever you'd like as long as there are no enemies near-by. I also don't understand the complaint about the gameplay and the cover system, I thought everything worked very well. I think the people that complain about the combat are trying to play the game too much like a shooter, at the core this game is an RPG, use all of your abilities and your team's strength.

I own assasins creed to, and while its fun, its nto nearly as revolutionary as mass effect. And the missions/gameplay in assassins creed is all the same... same stuff each city. I really wish there was more variety in that game, along with a better story.

MAss Effect on the other hand has the best story ive ever seen in a game and amazing gameplay

The main story arc was great fun to play but too short.the side quests are crap.Other than coloring the ground they did nothing to give those quests there own individuality. They just felt the same over and over and over and....you get the point.

Does taking motion blur and the texture thing off reduce the glitches?
