Oblivion is I guess a little more open ended. I foudn the Story in Mass Effect to be amazing but you only visit a few planets that seem to be populated with people. While the sidequest ones didnt seem to have to much going on.
But I would say Mass Effect, I just enjoyed the game as a whole better then Oblivion. I thought the story was just awesome.
It's not a matter of preference, one game is better in some things than the other...
I'm enjoying more the main story in Mass Effect, but the sidequests in Oblivion were more fun. I like the battle system in Mass Effect way better, but in Oblivion is more fun to just explore the world, caves, dungeons, etc. In mass effect every planet that has nothing to do with the main story is pretty much the same.
Oblivion is not very fun, its just another one of those games where the dev used "open ended" as an excuse for having a nearly nonexistant singleplayer story. Basically if you played Oblivion for more than 10 hours you had already seen all the tilesets available and everything else looked exactly the same just with tougher enemies. You could run through the main storyline in less than 8 hours.
Both. But I would take Oblivion slightly over Mass Effect because of the entralling guild quests, and much stronger side quests. Though the ME main story is incredible, I would buy it again just for that.
I really enjoyed both but Mass Effect is my favourite of the two. I just think Mass Effect had one of the best written stories in gaming and it was a real joy to play :)
if it were main quest vs main quest then i would totally go with Mass Effect,but if you want more bang for your buck then i would go with Oblivion....Oblivion just has so much more to explore and do...
They are both MUST owns though..so you cant go wrong with which ever one you choose,cuz you'll HAVE TO buy the other sooner or later.
They are different enough to make comparisons difficult to make. Mass Effect has more actual role playing decisions to make, more and better conversations/dialog, a MUCH better storyline and character development, and a funner combat system. Oblivion has more play time, is prettier looking, better technically (less texture popping, load times and other annoyances) and a much larger world to explore. It also has more downloadable content and an expansion pack out already. BOTH are exceptional games with a great deal of value for a mere $60 and will keep you occupied for hours and hours. You can't go wrong picking between the two, but Mass Effect is, in my opinion, a better game overall. Not as expansive and large, but not as shallow as Oblivion was.
