I know lots of people are excited about mass effect coming out in like 2 weeks, so this shouldn't be hard to answer. i wasn't really interested in the game until yesterday when i watched some of the gameplay movies, awesome. my only question is, is this more of a free roaming rpg like oblivion? i played oblivion and didnt like it, not my kind of game really. i'm hoping it's not though, mass effect is looking very appealing to my money..

Its free roaming in the sense that you have hundreds of planets to explore, but linear in that on those planets you land on a certain area and can walk around it. Who knows what some of the bigger planets will be like, although I'm guessing KOTOR-esque cities.

Yeah. You go to these different planets but you'll only land in a certain spot and have this area to explore and to stuff.

Hopefully the 3rd game in this trilogy will come next gen when Microsoft acknowledges a larger disc format...and we can have multiple planets each with a map the size of Oblivion's or Morrowinds...I know it won't happen (development time/costs) but I can still dream.

The game will have hundreds of different worlds to explore, but most of tgese worlds will relatively small in scale. The larger ones will most likely be medium sized. To answer your qouestion, it will not be the same as Oblivion

No it can't, the current generation can't afford to make a game that large-scale. Not to mention the development time would be in the 10's of years.

No, you won't find a game like that on the PS3 anytime soon. But I've got one just in case somebody pulls a miracle.

Will there be a lot of large cities in it? That's what I love in games. Large cities, lots of NPCs, and a ton of stuff to do.

It is free roaming, but at the same time you don't have to if you don't want to you can play it much like an action game just going to the planets required for the main quest.

Bioware is great at giving the player choices. From what I understand, there is a linear story, but the player has the ability to free roam various planets in the galaxy that are not essential to the main storyline. The planet selection is probably similar to KOTOR, but with far my choices. I think that has Game of the Year written all over it!

My guess is that is will be more liner that Oblivion was in the fact that you will not just be able to walk the entire universe and do whatever you want. You will most likely unlock new planets and side quests as you run through the story. But it will be like Oblivion in the fact that you can choose to follow the story from beginning to end or can choose to complete a side quest which may open up more of the back story or add a new weapon or ability. Think of it like a Final Fantasy over-world, you can do a side quest or head to the next town to continue the story.

Well now i have a question. Ive been keeping track of this game since the beginning. It seems like to me that its not like KOTOR in the sense that KOTOR was more of a TPS turned based shooter. Where as this looks like its straight TPS but you can pause the action to switch to different weapons/powers is this true??

Somewhat but it is turn based in the fact that you can pause the game, choose a weapon or ability, then choose the enemy you want to attack before going back to the action. I guess it is kinda a hybrid Third person shooter / turn based.

I don't know what you mean by saying this isn't like KOTOR, because it's exactly like KOTOR. The combat can be paused, and instructions given, or you can just go around and slash things if you like. Except in KOTOR all you had to do was select a target and your character would attack--you didn't have to (indeed, you could't) aim your weapons. I don't get that ME will do that. ME seems far *more* like a third person shooter than KOTOR.

It seems like there are a lot of combat options, which I like. Sometimes I like to plan, sometimes I just want to blow **** up without the console doing all the work. It looks fantastic.

I think the mission structure is also a lot like KOTOR, but with more destinations and more open areas. KOTOR kept you pretty well hemmed in, while ME looks to allow more random exploration. It seems like a decent mixture of free roaming and structure. I loved Oblivion, but I admit--the openness was a little overwhelming at first.

Where is this "hundreds" number coming from? I'm guessing at most we'll have a few dozen, more realistically we'll have 25 at most.

Actually, I too have adoubt regarding Mass Effect... sorry for not creating a new thread for mine, but I did it the other day and no one answered. The thing is that I want to know if the game will have the option to set it in Spanish (at least the subtitles).

Thanks in advance for answering :D

Well, some games don't have that option. I just want to know if ME is one of them.

I would call it A LOT like oblivion, except no guilds (I think), But I would definately compare it more to KOTOR than Oblivion, except bump KOTOR up to 100 planets, and kick ass graphics. Get it, you will not be disappointed.
