Questions:
1. Is it more shooting than talking?
2. Are the guns on the real side(Ex. COD 4) or creative(Ex. Halo 3)?
3. What score would you give it?
Appreciate any answers

1. Its got alot of story and great characters, so yes there is alot of dialog sometimes, but there is alot Alot of shooting as well. Its a great balance imo, and i cant wait for Mass Effect 2:)
2. the guns are a sniper rifle, pistol, sniper rifle, shotgun and then also the magic(biotics, etc..)and what not.
3. It was one of my favorite games of the year and the best singleplayer game so far in the 360, i would give it a 9.5 or 10/10, its near gaming perfection.

i have to agree with this guy. the guns are on the creative side since there are no other options but to me they are not that creative... almost all of the guns of the same type looks alike, just a change in color
RPG best game ever made since ever 11/10juan_789
You havn't played that many RPG's have you?
Mass Effect though a great RPG. would not even be in the top 25 RPG's of all time list
To answer the OP.
Its an RPG first, BASIC SHOOTER second. It is focused more on Dialogue and Story rather than action, but there is a LOT of action.
How much inavoidable action does there have to be before gamers say an RPG is not an RPG?!
The simple fact that in Options, you can automate all the Stats and levelling options, but only make the combat 'casual' and the aiming easier shows how Bioware was prepared not have you bother with the RPG elements, but did not give an option for RPG'ers to avoid the shooting!
Quite simply when combat is needed in a majority of quests to complete them, the game cannot be an RPG!

That's stupid, what is an RPG supposed to be to you only swords and magic?!
There are different types of RPGs, like Mass Effect is an ARPG(Action Role Playing Game).
To me it's how many types of characters you can play and how many options you have in combat that make an RPG.
For example, can you sneak in, or bribe someone, or find a different route to enter an enemy territory? If yes, then that#s an RPG.
In Mass Effect you have none of the sneaking or bribing or finding different entrances. What you have is just the option for different weapons and armour - which you get in shooters too, and the option for a frontal attack! So tell me what RPG, outside of Mass Effect and Jade Empire have just the option for frontal attack with no bribe option, no sneak option and no differnet access in most quests to the combat area? In this regard, STALKER is more of an RPG than Mass Effect, and most pople don't call that an RPG and yet call Mass Effect an RPG!
1.) The game is about 50/50 with combat and talking.
2.) The weapons are real weapons (assault rifles, shotguns, pistols, and sniper rifles), but they look and feel futuristic.
3.) I'd give it a 9/10. It's a really fun game the first few times you play it, but for me it's hard to bring myself to play it after that since about half of the game is dialogue I already know. It's definitely a buy though.
It's an rpg with some of the worst shooting mechanics I've ever seen. The guns do not look or feel futuristic, they feel innacurate and weak, mainly due to the fact that while the braindead enemy is charging you with no inclanation to use the randomly poorly placed cover on the games levels, you're unloading your gun almost to the point of overheating, and they are still coming at you.
Normally that wouldn't be an issue because your teamates would help, but alas, the A.I on both sides is dumb as a rock. Your allies won't last two seconds. And did I mention the HORRIBLY designed levels? Which clearly lacked any work as far as cover placement? Guns don't have headshots, enemies don't even reach to shots, a shot to the chest hurts them, but they don't reach to it.
But that's just the horrible combat, I'm gonna take it further. The graphics. The only thing this game has going for it graphically are the Characters FACIAL animations. Aside from that, the world is amazingly empty and bland. The Citadel, kind of the central hub of every species in the game, is surpringly empty. Supposedly it holds what, millions? Billions on that space ship alone? Yet for some reason all you ever get to see are a couple npc's who can't be interacted with. Very few of the people in the game can actually be spoken to.
And yes, the game is filled with different planets. However only about 1/5 of them can be landed on, and every, single, one of them that can be landed on, is the exact same empty, barren wasteland with absolutely nothing of interest aside from little X's on the map that provide useless resources required to complete the fetch quest to end all fetch quest. I mean, all the games side quest are go fetch, but this one is fetch on a galactic level.
Man, such an overrated game.

its more of a rpg more talking
the guns are more on the creative side
9/10
1) Combat involves shooting, though you'll also have abilities (Biotics and Tech abilities depending on your class). The talking is an integral part of the game, as is the combat. But it isn't a shooter like Halo or Gears of War. You will spend time talking to get information, exploring uncharted worlds, etc so it's definitely more of an RPG than a shooter.
2) The guns in the game are Pistols, Assault Rifles, Shotgun and Sniper Rifles, but they're all plasma based. You'll never reload the weapons with bullets. Just be careful to not let them overheat.
3) I'd say Mass Effect is a 10/10 for me personally. I'm actually really happy with my 360 purchase because I have more 10/10 games on my 360 than on any other platform (Oblivion, Gears of War 1, Halo 3 and Mass Effect), and those are 4 of the 11 total 10/10 games I own. The others being on various other platforms, but the 360 games take the biggest piece of the pie.
Would this be similar to Fallout 3 then in terms of its RPG/shooter-ness?

Not really. The shooting in Mass Effect is in real time. You only stop the combat for abilities like Lift or Throw. There's much more auto-aim than in a standard shooter, but the action in Mass Effect is fluid, even allowing you to utilize cover.
