I just went around the web searching for new info to Max Payne 3. I went to this site: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/gallery/view/26/109497/214.12 I found that really cool image and it made me get excited for Max Payne 3 because that is how Max Payne SHOULD look like. He shouldn't be bald, shirtless, and bearded. So there must be some part of the game where you play as the REAL max payne (not the one that is bald). I am admitting that I really do not like the new direction of Max Payne for the obvious reasons: -I dislike it not being a dark noire. -I don't like the new appearance of Max Payne -I don't care for the cover system. -Multiplayer is not needed for Max Payne games -And, I don't know if Rockstar can tell a story like Sam Lake did. I post this because there are many fans that do not appreciate what is going on with the direction of the Max Payne series. I have played through the first two Max Paynes multiple times and I enjoyed them a lot. The game was unique because of its' noire setting with the comic strips for a story. It had the best slo-mo bullet time at the moment it was released, and the story was great. Max was never a chizled guy. He didn't have muscles with a bald head. I don't really care for the story in Brazil or wherever he is. My question is this: what was wrong about the new york city atmosphere? What was wrong with the dark settings? The crime fighting and drug lords? I mean seriously, it doesn't even feel like a Max Payne game. Let me say that again, it doesn't feel or look like a max payne game. I am not saying I am boycotting it. I will play it because I believe that is the best way to have a say in something. I just am very disappointed with the new direction the series is going in. You don't need a cover system or anything, this isn't gears of war. You don't need multiplayer because Max Payne was about the story, not the multiplayer action like halo and COD are famous for. Any comments or opinions on the direction of Max Payne 3? I would love to have a good discussion about it. Thank you.

I totally agree with you, the max payne series is awesome because how the story is told. Max Payne needs to be gritty, a lot of rain and throw in a trench coat or its just not Max Payne

I'm a huge Max Payne fan. I recently replayed the other two. How much more can they do with that version of Max without it not being believable anymore?

I have faith in Rockstar. Sometimes you need to take a series in a different direction and I think they are one of the few developers that can pull in off.

I think Rockstar can make a good game; but it won't be MAX PAYNE. This game doesn't look like Max Payne at all. I feel like this game has TOO much change that it has lost its' identity. Therefore, it no longer feels or looks like a Max Payne game. Lets take Resident Evil for example. Resident Evil 4 went through some changes and went from being survival horror to more action. Despite the success of the new Resident Evil genre, some fans still miss the old survival horror elements that are no longer present in Resident evil games. For the record, I am happy with the new RE changes, but I still miss the survival horror theme that RE had. Yes Resident Evil made changes, but there were changes that needed to be made. For example, better gameplay (being able to aim). Now after reading that, does the same idea apply to Max Payne? I understand maybe Max Payne needing new gameplay elements and stuff, but is it necessary to do away with the noire setting? Is it necessary to have multiplayer? Is it necessary to change his look? Is all of it NECESSARY? I don't think it is. If it's not broke, don't fix it. These elements of Max Payne are NOT broke.

I like how people complain that there is no originality in games anymore, but complain when there is.

-I dislike it not being a dark noire.
The first two were already dark noire.

-Multiplayer is not needed for Max Payne games
Then stick to single player.

You make a good point, it worked with Uncharted being multiplayer. However, Bioshock 2 had multiplayer and look how well that worked out for them. It wasn't very popular. I think we can say that the multiplayer took away Bioshock 2's single player experience. Many people will believe Bioshock 1 was definitely better than Bioshock 2. That's what I fear will happen to this Max Payne. I feel multiplayer will be tacked on. Rockstar can do a good job; no denying it. RDR is one of the best games I played last year and I'm excited about LA Noire. GTA is great, but it feels like the same game since GTA3 but with a new location and new characters. Who knows, Rockstar may surprise me. But for now, I remain very skeptical of MP3. There is already a lot of change with the game. I know change can be good, but I feel like in this case, too much change can make a game lose it's unique identity. It feels like a whole new game instead of having it feel and look like Max Payne 3. Rockstar has an impressive resume of excellent games, but the first two Max Payne games are the measuring stick that they have to live up to.

Yeah same here. I played the first 2 games and loved the dark and dirty style of the game, and the comic book presentation was genius at the time. Plus i just LOVED the parts where when you meet a new character, time just slows and it zooms into the guy and they show his name! :P

Sounds like most of you didn't play it. It is dark. It does have a great story that is very possible. He has hair 50% of the time if not more. it has comic book type clips. Cover system is what is exspected of any new game. He is in New Jersey not New York, some of the game. Max Payne fan here...thought is was great. plus it is a little harder then most games you can breaze through. Haven't done any multy player, just single on hard with no aim assist

The first Max Payne game was great. I still break it out and play it occasionally. I didn't care much for the second instalment. Max Payne 3, however, is fantastic. I love the direction they've taken with the game. It's still dark. It's still gritty and it's most certainly still Max Payne. It all makes sense in the context of the game. There's only so many times I want to play as the same Max in the same setting shooting the same bad guys. The new Max Payne does complete justice to the series IMO. It progresses the character, fleshes him out and gives him more complexity as a person rather than keeping him in the same setting and time frame. Without giving anything away, don't stress on the cosmetic changes. They make sense when you play. The cover system was well implemented and because the AI is reasonably tough (at least on hard) it doesn't become a shooting gallery type experience. If you were a fan of the first game I think you will enjoy Max Payne 3.

-I don't care for the cover system. really is fun
-Multiplayer is not needed for Max Payne games. who cares what game it is, MP is nice featuer for any game. their is still a good SP like the others
-And, I don't know if Rockstar can tell a story like Sam Lake did. i can't remember how everything went down because it's been long time. But rockstar produced a good story so far

you do have to remember it's a game that hasn't been in production for some years picked up by other publisher from other team, and times has change.

Somehow Rockstar managed to bring Max Payne into 2012 and keep the gritty, hard-boiled cop feeling of the first two. I would even go so far as to say, they paint a fuller, more fleshed out version of Max that the previous two didn't have.

In MP1 and 2, he is a mere caricature, a cartoon character written in the film noir stereotype. Max Payne 3 ups the ante with a darker, more mature treatment of its story. It doesn't rely solely on the cosmetic trappings of "noir". The setting of much of the game in Sao Paulo while keeping the themes of depression, betrayal, and corruption even more present than ever in the series.... that's a testament to the quality of the writing and the pacing.

Personally, Max Payne 3 is shaping up to be one of my favorite stories this generation.

Too many changes? I welcome what Max Payne has turned into.

Actually I think they didn't change enough with MP3. It felt kinda stale and redundant. The character and story were fine. It was the actual controls and gameplay that needed an upgrade IMO. I haven't touched the game since the new Ghost Recon game came out. To each his own, I suppose. But if you want a gritty dark self-loathing character, with a story that directly reflects said character, you are in for a treat.

I would like for everyone to see the date of the post on this message and the previous one. It is a 13+ months old thread. I have rented Max Payne 3 and I must say that Rockstar has proved me wrong! The game is outstanding! I was completely proven wrong. Look, I still don't like the bald look, but understand why it happened. I don't agree with it, but I understand why it happened. I just don't like the bald look; but that's a small complaint now. the good from MP3 far outweighs the bad. I'm glad Rockstar proved me wrong and I'm totally on board with anything they are doing. Titles like Max Payne 3, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, GTA are all proof.
