As far as im concerned both games offer a maximum bang to buck ratio. Ive had ME on reserve for almost a year, but that damn Orange Box keeps taunting me with Portal and Team Fortress, and now i dont know what to get. I loved Oblivion and other action RPGs in general, and ME promises to be epic, but damn, how do you say no to arguably the 5(!) best games of the year? Opinions?
I honestly don't know what to tell you. I want both games and will eventually own both, though I can only get one with tomorrow's paycheck. I think I still want to see some more opinions from gamers after they buy ME, though the few that have had a chance to already get it all seem tobe positive. I'm also an Oblivion fan and I always wanted to play Half-Life2 but my PC was too old. Guess the only thing I can say is that you probably won't go wrong with either choice.
Personally I think you should stick with ME. I own Orange Box and it is awsome,but it's more of the same.Sure you get a great deal,but Team Fortress is not that good by todays standards (halo 3, COD4) and Portal is a cool little side game. If you want another shooter go with Orange box, but if you want something that will last you a good while, go with Mass Effect. Remember how good Kotor was when you first played it?(assuming you did)
You cant go wrong with the Orange Box. Yes it is 5 for 1, and i own it but honestly dont play it that much. Maybe you will be different. Now the 1 thing that was said that TF is not up to todays standards with Halo 3 and all that bs. No your wrong. For most console gamers it is something that you havent played before. It isnt deathmatch kill, kill ,kill, mindset. It is work as a TEAM, using different class characteristics, to complete the mission objective. Capture intelligence, or hold the lockout points. So if your wanting justa deathmatch i would say yes HAY LOW is better.I dont think its all around a better game, but it is funfor a while.It all depends on the kind ofgame your looking for. Mass Effect is gonna be awesome i say hold off another 5 days before you make a choice.
The Orange Box isn't that great in my opinion. Where as, even though i haven't yet got my own copy, i would suggest Mass Effect. It's as good as it's been hyped to be from what i've heard from the lucky few who already own the game.
The Orange Box really isn't 5 games in 1. Half Life 2 is a full game yes, TF I'll give it 1/2 of a game because there's not many maps and you can only play capture the flag on one, portal and episode 1 are short like 3 hours each (I just started episode 2 so I dont know how long it is) so I would say it's more like 2.5 games in 1, still a good deal though. I was planning on buying it but I instead rented it to play all the half life 2 content and portal and I still have like 3 days to go (no late fees at blockbuster is sick) but I already beat everything except episode 2.
i am in the same situation because i dont have enough money for two but i mean you just cant compare the two until mass effect comes out and also it is hard to compare the two because one is a shooter and one is an rpg so i guess i could be what are u in the mood for
that's a really tough one. they're probably about the same as far as bang for buck, i'd really say get both. if you get one you won't need another game for quite a while.

I would have to disagree with you and say that TF 2 is on par with Halo 3and no way it is worse since Halo 3 was not that innovative in its multiplayer but yet still fun. But as of now I can only speak for Orange Box and it is a great collection of games in one box for $60 that is worth every penny. Now I myself wanna get Mass Effect too but Orange Box is awesome
