Merging accounts

Hi (noob question),

I have an offline profile on my Xbox 360 with all my achievements on. I registered an online profile on Xbox.com to save the name for when I got around to sorting out XBL.

How can I merge my offline achievements with my online name? Can I just login to my online account from my offline account and keep everything (recover it)? Or do I have to sign in to the online one with the name I want, change the name, then change the name of the offline one to the one I want and make it online? Or is it possible to just delete the gamertag with the name I want?

I read the thing on the Xbox.com support page below but just wondering if there was a simpler way/if you could clarify it a bit.

First of all the free account you have now and the one you registered are both silver accounts. Which means either way you can't play online. Also you can't transfer the achievements what you have to do is activate your offline account with the achievements to a gold online account and then if you don't like the name pay 800mps($10) to change the name.

The Xbox isn't even connected to the internet yet, I've not got around to it. I just registered the name on Xbox.com as a nameholder.

I think I'll just have to create a Silver account with it and change the name. Then make my offline profile online and use the now free name.

What exactly do I do to make my offline profile an online one and make sure I keep everything?

I hadn't got it set up then though so I just did it to hold the name.
