Good news! I just heard from my source at Microsoft regarding your idea.Ā He just got off the phone with Bill Gates, and it turns out that Gates WILL implement this program because it makes such good business sense from a profits/losses standpoint.
There's only one catch: the program will be implemented only for you.Ā Gates said it's because you're such a "neat-o" guy.
Uh, no, most of us probably don't want an elite, even at a discount. Its just 2 extra features that 95% of current and future 360 owners don't need or would even use. Sure you COULD fill up 120 gigs worth of space, but why keep that Quake 4 demo on your harddrive anyway?we want the elite but wnat to give our premium systems back if we cud get a siscount plz

That's what extended warranties are for. Gonna take mine back to Best Buy and use my PRP to get teh Elite. Lotta people out there self owned because they don't listen to reason.terrellpakemanQFT! I wish everyone would buy Best Buy PRP's, they are the best.

Lotta people out there self owned because they don't listen to reason.terrellpakemanI've heard people talking about this. It seems pretty doubtful thought that Best Buys across the country are just going to let you trade in a perfectly good 360 for a new elite, especially when the new elite costs 80 bucks more. What makes you think this will work? Not being a jerk here, I just actually want to know.

Thanks for explaining that. Plus i have a launch 360 that started to act up when the Elite was announced. It's funny when an associate offers the PRP and people flat out decline. Instant self ownage.

That still doesn't explain how you can get a new system when your old one isn't defective in any way, unless of course you plan on having your 360 fail around the launch of the elite. Just seems to me this would be a huge loss of money for Best Buy if tons of people just came in and dropped off perfectly good premiums or even cores to get an elite. By what you just said anyone who wants a premium but bought a core could just walk in and grab one.[QUOTE="antislipshod"]Uh, no, most of us probably don't want an elite, even at a discount. I could ask you about the heavy questioning as to my heavy questioning. But the answer to your question is that I'm a law student, I've spent the last 2 years learning to question everything. Am I just going to take his bald assertion? No, I want to know why this works, how its feasible and what the hell Best Buy is thinking letting people exchange perfectly good systems for new ones. And its not an ethical problem I have, especially if Best Buy is all for it. I only have issues when people try to cheat the system because in the end, the rest of us end up paying for it if that person gets away with it.[QUOTE="jmartinez1983"][QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"]I've heard people talking about this. The service plans at Best Buy are a complete ripoff unless you plan to unethically exploit them to upgrade your system whenever a new one comes out. This isn't the first time I've heard of this happening - a lot of iPod owners with the PRP have a convenient accident a month or so before it runs out. Oh, look, the iPod seems to have improved in the last two years... isn't that funny? At a certain point if Best Buy is losing money on scammers like this they will crack down in ways that harm the ethical people who bought the plan. I'm bothered by how openly you're discussing this, as though it is not a form of stealing. It's no different than the argument that the PSP is a superior system because you can use emulators and illegal ROMs. Remember, it's thanks to scammers that we can't exchange open games or movies for a different one - even if the game itself is faulty, and not just the particular disc we got. It's thanks to scammers that I need to ask for receipts if I want to return a Christmas present to the store it was purchased from. But yeah, like I said, its not the scammers that get harmed, its everyone else that pays for it. Also - I was a Best Buy employee - nowhere in our training materials on the PRPs and PSPs do we mention intending to allow people to upgrade your system. That is not the intention of those plans. Did you ever wonder why all of a sudden the service plans went from being very cheap with your employee discount, to costing only a little less than what the customer pays? I guarantee you if you go to regional management and say "I'm an employee of Best Buy, I use the PRP as a way to trade in working products whenever a new model comes out, is this okay?" The answer is not going to be "Yes". More than likely, the answer will be "that's fraud, you're fired." If you're telling people to do this as an employee, you're lying to them. You're telling them that an overpriced service plan is priced that way because it allows them to do something it's not supposed to do. It's like being an accountant and telling someone about a questionable loophole. At some point, that loophole is going to get noticed, and when that customer tries to do what you've described, it's not going to work, and they'll be left holding the bill.[QUOTE="fanoir"]Good news! Have fun with your Elites, Toyboys.
I don't own an Xbox 360. I knew the upgrade was coming months ago, so I've been patiently waiting for this release. If Elite is such a "non-upgrade" I don't ge why so many current owners are whining about it - whatever, it's not my problem. The Elite is the Xbox 360 that give me the most value for the money - a 120gb HDD, HDMI, DVD upscaling via HDMI, unreleased video footage on the HDD, and a new matte black finish. I'm bothered by the hatred towards future fellow 360 owners - you're a 360 gamer, why would you choose to hate people who want to enjoy the same system you enjoy? Those of us who don't want to buy into the white system you've deemed superior? Not everyone out there is just upgrading - some of us have been waiting for a superior (elite...) model of the 360 before we buy.ALRIGHT!!! some poeple do nothing but b!tsh about how its not fair that they bought an Xbox360 and the new one is coming out....All I can say is SHUT UP!!!! the Xbox360 is a computer built for entertainment ..... If u were to buy a computer, u wouldnt feel unfair that a new computer came out .....u have such a large variaty of computers, how can u call urs obsolite if itz not .... OK!!! U dont see it like a computer, u c it like a game, a toy ...... if u were to buy an x-Men toy, and the space suit version came out ..... ur not going to go to the store and demand a trade-up!!!!
Get over it!!!! ur xbox works perfectly fine .... u wanna trade it in, u should have bought it in costco's ..... yuh jerk

The manager of the Best Buy I work at tells us to tell them. I am just not pulling this stuff out of nowhere. I have had 2 different managers, and this one says the same exact thing. It is not fraud. It is called being future proof. I only return my consoles when they are broke btw.BioShockOwnz
LMAO. I guess the people who don't have the warranties are the ones who have sand in their vag**as. The Best Buy employee is right. The plan is seen as a way to upgrade and is sold to customers as a way to upgrade for instances like this. With a launch 360, I think I'm justified in using my PRP to upgrade to an elite to remedy my problem. I'll also buy a PRP on my Elite just in case. I've used them in the past on my PS2 and Xbox, so I know the plans benefits and limitations. For the law student, please feel free to pick up a brochure at your local Best Buy. I'm a grad student alsoĀ and I've taken a few business law classes in my time to know what's up. You think because you're a future lawyer you have been imbued with the gift of questioning everything?! You just had to throw that in. Toddlers ask questions all the time so don't think you're special.
I don't hate anyone, especially a 360 owner.Ā No doubt I'll be seeing you online at some point.Ā
I'm notĀ debating whether this is an actual upgrade (it is, allegedly), or whether it can be had by exercising the product replacement plan, which it apparently can.
But anyone who is looking at their 360 premium and thinking "That's just not good enough -- I want an Elite" is a total malcontent.Ā Get over it and get a job, hobby, workout routine, girlfriend, or maybe a book or magazine.
Why would I say this?Ā I have a PRP that I've used a total of FOUR times to get the 360 that I have.Ā I still have the folder with accompanying receipts and insurance policy issued by AIG in the original box tucked inside my front door closet.Ā Could I use it to get an Elite?Ā Maybe.Ā So the question to you 360 owners who have a perfectly good machine is WHY ARE YOU NOT SATISFIED WITH WHAT YOU HAVE?Ā
Hey, while you're at Best Buy, be sure to pick up a PS3 and a Wii, because you won't be truly happy until you have every last system.Ā And did you hear that Sony is releasing a pearl-white PS3 and there's going to be a Wii with an anodized aluminum case with red and yellow CNC flames?Ā Yup, it's true.Ā Better wait for those.
[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"]The manager of the Best Buy I work at tells us to tell them. I am just not pulling this stuff out of nowhere. I have had 2 different managers, and this one says the same exact thing. It is not fraud. It is called being future proof. I only return my consoles when they are broke btw.terrellpakeman
So true. That other system came with a big enough hdd, and hdmi. It came with everything. They didn't cut anything. The color doesn't matter. I buy a lot of movies and shows off of XBL, and the 20 GB isn't doing it. I would also like the slight benefit of hdmi. I have 2 360's, a Japanese and American one, my American one broke down 2 weeks ago, and I am holding off returning it until I can get the Elite.I don't hate anyone, especially a 360 owner.Ā No doubt I'll be seeing you online at some point.Ā
I'm notĀ debating whether this is an actual upgrade (it is, allegedly), or whether it can be had by exercising the product replacement plan, which it apparently can.

[QUOTE="jmartinez1983"][QUOTE="subrosian"][QUOTE="terrellpakeman"][QUOTE="jmartinez1983"][QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"]I've heard people talking about this. It seems pretty doubtful thought that Best Buys across the country are just going to let you trade in a perfectly good 360 for a new elite, especially when the new elite costs 80 bucks more. What makes you think this will work? Not being a jerk here, I just actually want to know. I work for Best Buy. I upgraded from the Core to the Premium, when my Core broke. If they give you any problem then you can file a claim to get a gift card to spend it on anything in the store.[QUOTE="jmartinez1983"][QUOTE="terrellpakeman"]That's what extended warranties are for. Gonna take mine back to Best Buy and use my PRP to get teh Elite. Lotta people out there self owned because they don't listen to reason.subrosian
Product Replacement Plan (PRP) Don't get it fixed. Get it replaced. This plan ensures a full replacement of covered products. Features include:
Easy fulfillment Flexibility - we'll give you a Best Buy Gift Card to choose your own replacement
Nationwide redemption
If you purchased the item in store, you can file a PRP claim online.
Call 1-888-539-6883 for all BestBuy.com purchases. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=page&categoryId=cat10008&contentId=1043363604723&id=cat12098
By what you just said anyone who wants a premium but bought a core could just walk in and grab one.You can wrestle with the ethics, however, I have a launch 360 which is known to be prone to having problems. I can swear I see the red ring of death right now. I have a PRP so it's going back. That simple. That's why I bought it in the first place. You heard from a Best Buy employee already. Why the heavy questioning?
You can't downplay that this is pure exploitation by pretending you see a Red Ring coming on. I agree with you. Also, I find it interesting that the reason the replacement plans are so expensive is because people do take advantage of it in an unfair way. At some point, that loophole is going to get noticed, and when that customer tries to do what you've described, it's not going to work, and they'll be left holding the bill.SO MANY QUOTES!!
EliteĀ would be waste of money IMO, current one is fine!

Questioning everything is not a gift, its not a right either (since I think that's what you really meant) its actually just a smart thing to do, you can take things at face value if you like.
Don't get me started on "business law" ****s in Business school or whatever, those ****s are an absolute joke. If you are an MBA student that's an even bigger joke. 2 years of goofing around is what it amounts to. No wonder business people need lawyers so often.
Also, I didn't just "toss anything in," the guy asked me why I asked the questions, well there's your answer since you seemed so concerned. Did you actually read anything or did you just find something to latch onto and attack? Nice toddler analogy, you pick tha up in your intense business law ****s? Toddler's aren't the only ones that ask questions, intelligent people with common sense ask questions, but hey, feel free to go through life not asking any questions. Ignorance is bliss right?

I agree with whoever made this forum. Good job. Your my hero! If microsoft gives us the elites for our premiums I dont think ill ever buy a product from sony or nintendo ever again. Just to repay microsoft for their generosity.
