Midnight Club Los Angeles concern

I started out with a Volkswagon Golf and I've been doing ok, but now the races are increasing in difficulty and I still don't have access to any other cars. I'm supposed to race Nikolai for his Camaro, but I get dusted down the last stretch. I'll go 1-1 with him and on the third race, he leaves me behind. Granted, I'm not very good at the game yet because I just started, but I'm not terrible, either.

When do you get access to other cars? I just traded my VW for a Nissan (white car you can select at beginning). Hopefully it gets better. Anyone have similar issues? I know they released a patch that supposedly makes the game a little bit easier at the beginning but I am still struggling. I really like the game (loved DUB edition for PS2) and I definitely want to stick with it. Should I just keep practicing, give it some time, etc.? Like I said, this isn't a rage filled "THIS GAME SUCKS, I'M TRADING IT!" thread, because I think the game is really cool.

I'm not sure if it's a story race or not. It was an orange race, so it's fairly difficult. I might just stick to green and yellow races for now. I just didn't know if I should be concerned that I didn't have access to more vehicles or if this was completely normal.

From what I remember (from a long time ago), the difficulty of the races is relative. If you upgrade your car the AI will upgrade, as well. You should be able to get it, just keep practicing.

i also started out with the VW too and tried to beat Nickolai earlier in the game ....which didn't work out. so eventually I just kept beating the easier races (green and yellows) until I tuned my car and then won the Datson which I used to beat Nickolai.

I'm pretty sure cars are unlocked via experience and leveling up. Just stick with the greens/yellows for now until you can level up and unlock more cars.
