So, i'm gonna turn 16 soon, and I was thinking of asking for an Xbox 360, well, I'd pay for it though, that's how I want it, haha. So, I have a couple of questions, since I really don't know much about the Xbox 360, or the Xbox... Oh, and I'm not here for some console war, so please, none of that, hehe.

Okay, so let's get started! Hmm... The 360 can be placed sideways and/or in an upright position, right? So, which one's better? I want to make sure that it won't get bricked or something like that, or getting broken in any way at all. So, what should I do to take care of it? How am I supossed to cool it, cause I read something in the official site I think, and I couldn't make much sense out of it... Like, where am I supossed to aim the fan at, and stuff like that. Oh, and what are the possible umm, technical problems, for the 360? I know about the RROD and the E74, was it? But I wanted to know if there were others, and what causes them? And how are we supossed to get it fixed? I think that's all for now...

All help would be greatly appreciated! And wish me luck that my parents would let me buy it, hehe :D

Keep the console in whichever orientation that you want. I have always kept mine vertical for the years of owning it. My friends keep theirs horizontal and a few of us have gotten the RRoD. I have never gotten one single scratched disc when my console is vertical, nor have I had any other problem besides the widely known RRoD. Don't worry about it's orientation, just do whatever is most convenient for you. Don't keep it in an enclosed/tight space. You don't need to buy a 3rd party fan to help keep it cool either. I have gamed 12+ hours at a single time and have had no issues arise. Just don't worry about what can happen to it. It's an electronic device with a possibility of failure, just like anything else. Just buy it and enjoy it!

I have mine horizontal. The easy way to avoid problems is just keep it somewhere that has at least 5 inches of space all around the console. Other than that, you don't need to worry about it. I've never had a scratched disk or any problems with any of my 360's (I had a launch console for 4 years, then got an elite last November - both of which have been played for what must be like 40+ hours a week), so just use it as you normally would.

Glad to hear ya getting a 360 and turning 16, i'll make this short, if your getting a xbox it would be best to get an eillte, the % for the RROD and E74 has been really low with new chip MS has been giving to the new xbox's...

Put it horizontal and keep it in the open.

I've had my 360 for 2 years and haven't gotten RROD yet and its a Falcon model (Jasper is better).

As everybody said, RRoD are not are big deal of a problem now. Although the option is there, I'd rather have it horizontal, I tried only once vertical and it scratched the dvd for good... not that it doesn't work, just my personal experience. I've played for periods up to 10hs without any problems, as long as you give enough room to cool you shouldn't have any problems. I also had a booting problem cuz of the HDMI cable, not a console problem, cable was damaged and the 360 wouldn't boot, when I tried with th AVs it was fine, so I got a new HDMI cable. Hope you enjoy the 360!

1st question: Yes, it can be placed either way. 2nd question: ELITE is a little better. 3: keep it clean and in a well ventilated area. 4: Either buy an intercooler or use a fan and aim it at the back of the console. 5: All I know is the RRoD and I think that I've heard some say that they've had it shut down on them because it was over heating. It hasn't happened to me... well yet I guess. I got it jan 9 this year. 6: Either A: get it fixed at some place that sells electronics and fixes them, or B: Send it in to M$.

Definitely do not do that. The fans in the 360 blow the hot air out the back. Aiming a fan at it would only be counter-productive. And forget about intercoolers. Waste of money.

I used an intercooler for my ps3 and nothings happened to it. Well really the 360 doesn't need it but if you feel that you must get one then go ahead. As long as you keep it in a well ventilated area you should be fine. And BTW how would you know that an intercooler would be a "waste of money"? Have you owned one?
