Good time to own a great game :D Been playing around with it a lot today, fell in lava, got my entire house blown up by creepers, you know, the usual first day horrors :P

I died in the first 15 mins in the game and my first map is somewhere on the countryside, I have no idea where it is I just expect to find it at some point when I'm out adventuring.

I'm pretty sure this game is anxiety inducing. Earlier I was loaded with stuff, and saw a creeper in my tunnel. Before that I'd been blown up by a creeper and the explosion ended up flooding my mine, so I was REALLY on edge when I saw it. Turned, tunneled into a wall, blocked it off behind me, and made the slow process of digging my way up from a longggg way down.. I had too much valuable stuff on me to risk losing it all :(

Dig deep and if you don't find it, keep digging around at a lower level until you do.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you set the game to "Peaceful" mode there are no enemies, correct?

I tried out Peaceful just for kicks and I can't find any enemies, and especially no creepers :).

Hopefully they add a Creative Mode to the game in the near future. As it stands, you can't make anything tall or in the sky without building a complicated scaffolding system. I must say it gets me thinking about realistic construction methodology, but Creative Mode would just be so much easier.

Yes, peaceful mode means no monsters but it also means no resources like string and gunpowder from them as well.

By all accounts, that is a pretty common day 1 scenario. To resolve that whole 'house blown up' issue, I dug my house into a hilltop(hobbit hole style!) And lined the inside with smooth stone. A creeper can bblow up right on top of my house and it won't breach it- it'll just blast away the top layer of dirt. Should another creeper go off right on top of the stone, I'll only suffer a 1 hole breach. And that's an easy seal.

In my experience, at about 50 meters below sea level.

You know, I'm very confused about this whole Minecraft fad. I tried it on my computer and I thought it was awful, obviously the visuals weren't supposed to be great but ugh I just couldn't stand looking at it. The gameplay seemed very unfinished and dated, I don't know the game just made me irritated.

See for me I did all that but then I made a glass ceiling because it's cool, a Creeper blew up and there went the entire top of my house and then spiders got in lol

for me it was right by where i spawned. there is a section of the map where there is a small desert, followed by moutains, and behind the moutains there is a lake. it was right by the lake.

Hah hah! I saw that flaw in the plan as soon as I considered it, so I just stuck a window on the front of my house and still had the stone around it. It's definately the weakest link in my chain, but the front door is opposite the window, so generally the kaboom takes place too far away to blow in the glass.

You get out of it what you're willing to put into it, I find. But if you're willing to put in the time, the return can be surprisingly rewarding.

By the way, am I the only one who no longer bothers to put too much effort into other peoples' worlds? Sure, my world has a couple of magnificent(if I do say so myself) structures, but when I play on someone else's game, I find I generally build a cozy hideyhole and open up a shop- trading goods with others, I found, can be every bit as amusing as mining and building.

How do you secure your shop when you're not around? I've taken to lining the inside with obsidian(I usually mine under my shop and score diamonds first- it's just good business sense).
