So I go to Gamestop hoping to take advantage of my 25% off Xbox 360 used coupons. I walked out empty handed. Their used prices are just so ridiculous. Even with 25% plus my 10% edge card, I would pay a lot more for the titles than I could find online. THey are still charging 50 bucks for used titles like Ace Combat.

The thing that really irritated me is I really wanted Operation Darkness. I bought the game last week, and I was miffed that I had no choice but to pay 60 bucks for an open game that had been handled. They only kept one copy of the dang game in stock. The reviews were so bad for this game that I sold it immediately, but now I really want to play it again.

So I go back in, just hoping they had a sealed copy. Of course not. They only had the open shelf copy, and the plastic was all warped with stickers on it. Forget it. I refuse to pay for full price for something that isnt even in mint condition. How can they legally get away with advertising something as new when it is not?

that is dumb

but i have a question, why did you sell the game based on the reviews? if you liked the game (and want to play it now) why not just keep it in the first place?

There is definitely no reason to use gamestop anymore. Use half.com, amazon marketplace or get gamefly. Skip the middleman, they have to charge more because they have make money reselling games, just buy direct.

It was a dumb strategy of mine. The plan was to buy the game, play it for a week ,sell it , rebuy, play another week, resell, repeat until I've finished the game, and hopefully end up spending less than 60 bucks for the pleasure.

Well the game sold on Ebay for 52 bucks. Yet after paying all the fees, I ended up paying 20 bucks to play the game for a week. Last time I ever do that crap. Just not worth selling games anymore.

Honestly, I don't know why so many people complain about GameStop. I live in Ireland and the one near me is the best game shop around for miles. When I trade in new games, I get like 50%-60% back for what I paid, they have lots of great deals on, the used games are really cheap, they always have stock, for big games they give out shirts and stuff, the employees are such nice people (you'd talk to them about ANY game and they'd try to get you the best deal). It's great.

Like, just recently I bought Viva Pinata, Saints Row and Forza Motorsport 2 for 40 euro. A new game costs 60 euro if you're wondering.

I'm sorry that you don't like your own Gamestop but I greatly like mine. The employees are incredibly nice and they almost always have a copy of what I want in stock. I don't know what your talking about with having overpriced used games, I usually shop in the bargain bin for $9.99 or under titles for my PS2 and can usually find great stuff.

that's why i gave up on used games id rather give more money to the developers than gamespot. used game sales really hurt the industry. if u can afford it u really should pay the extra $

heres a horror story... well not horror but pretty frustrating. i had a gift card there, only to find out it "expired." i was pissed. it had around 30 bucks on there, which could have bought a game. thats why i always buy my games at other non-video game stores. the only times i go there is if they actually have a good deal or its a game i cant find anywhere else

Yeah, I saw some ridiculously stupid prices for games man, I went to EB Games and saw used, now I'm saying USED games like 59.99 of Assassin's Creed, COD4 and all that other stuff. Ok so I saw forget it(I wasn't going to buy the used games, I just saw the ridiculous prices there). I move on to Futureshop and find that those games are all 39.99,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, some even 34.99 like WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm only going to buy games that are new releases at EB/Gamestop from now on, since their prices are unreasonable and retarded in every way.

Wow except Gift Cards at Gamestop don't expire. Nice BS story there. Unless your referring to your GI discount that does expire. Not the money on it.

I agree, i absolutely hate gamestop and hardly ever go there anymore. I see no reason at all to pay $50 for a used game either, especially knowing the person who gave them that used copy only got like $15. Whenever I have a game that I just don't want anymore I always sell it on ebay, that's the best way to go. As for purchases, I don't mind paying $60 for a new game, but i can usually get it cheaper then that on Ebay or the amazon marketplace.

I'm so confused about what I've been reading here. Are all of you like, 14 with no concept of how capitalism works?

The reality of it is, companies aren't out to help you at all. They are out to help themselves make money. It doesn't matter if they are selling video games, vegetables, or car parts. If you don't like it, don't use it, but for people to think "shouldn't it be illegal" shows that you aren't fully understanding things. They can charge $3,000 for a game if they want, it's their stock and merchandise. It's up to you as the customer to decide where to go for your deal. Don't hate a company for trying to make profit, it's their job to make money. If you know of a cheaper way to get a game, you are under no obligation to go to the more expensive source, just as the more expensive source is under no obligation to lower it's price just because you found it cheaper elsewhere.

Well i was ok with my experience. I traded in some pretty bad and old PS2 and xbox games (i mean madden 05, and a crappy baseball game) which only gave me about $27. That was kind of bad, but i ended up getting SSBB, Shadow of the Collosus (misspelt), Dynasty Warirors 3, Viewtiful Joe, JSRF/Sega GT for 50 or 55 bucks. I had an Edge crad which helped out a bit, and i can't deny all that was well worth it.

I couldn't play half the xbox games games (not B/C) and i usually don't have my PS2 at my house, so i never played those games. Going on ebay probably would have made me mabye 5 more bucks (with all the costs of putting things up on ebay and what not). They were kind of old, but not rare (which means they weren't like Ogre Battle 64 costing $45....... thats crap).

I'm not going to sell much more there (if any), but i like my edge card. I bought Assassin's Creed mabye a month after it came out for $10 less and it has worked flawlessly since.

Mmmm, this set off the BS detector. They don't sell used games for the same price as new games. It doesn't happen.

I'm pretty annoyed by teir customer support. Called twice about my sniper code and they said they'd send the code but they never did. I'm calling tomorrow if they're open but i truly doubt they'll send it. Going in on sunday to find out what to do.

In b4 a gamestop employee posts how all customers are stupid and we should learn to play by their rules because they are the gods of game stores.

My first experience with that store in a couple years was the GTA4 midnight release. Dunno why I pre ordered when I could have just gone to wal-mart like I always do, but I guess I was caught up in the hype. Anyways, we're all waiting in line, and this guy comes out (think he was a manager, not sure) and starts going off like a drill sergeant "If you do NOT have your ID's ready you will NOT be allowed to enter the store and purchase the game!! Does everyone understant me? NO ID NO GAME!! GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS RIGHT NOW!!"

Wow, what ever happened to customer service? Isn't there a more polite way to get your point accross? It was like he was some geek that was picked on in high school and didn't have the motivation to become a cop and push people around for a living so he got off on pushing around nerds waiting in line for a game. What a tough guy!

I remembered why I avoid those places like the plague.

Not really a good option for me. For one thing, the game isnt available for rent. It is too rare. Secondly, I hate renting because it is a race against the clock. I work full time, and really only have the weekends for gaming. On average, it takes me 1 - 2 months to beat a game. I never get my money's worth from renting or services like Gamefly.

Buying a game at full price is just stupid when the value will drop within weeks. Look at Mass Effect. It is already down to 20 - 30 retail price.

I know exactly how you feel. Especially when you ask for cashback they take a huge percentage unless you just get store credit. But you also have to remember that the value of a CD is low. Its too easy to copy. That explains why a game value drops within weeks. Buying PC games are even worse. You cant return those unless they are defective which is still hard to prove. But I also feel you on the fact that they dont lower prices on some games like Gears, or Ace Combat. Games like these are still around 50-60 bucks. This is also why some companies are offering games for download.

The Gamestop where I work is fine because the people are nice. Never have they done that to me and I'm probably going to start working there by the end of the year since jobs are so scarce where I live and I've been there enough to the point where they would give the job to me first. One thing tough, it's not like the customers treat them well either. Even tough the people at mine are nice, people will still trade in games and systems with used cue tips in them, used tissues, and tons of nasty stuff.

Yea, if they did that people would probably try to sue because America is like that. Plus, they would probably be breaking some law by doing so.

I understand about some of the goofy prices, but sometimes I'll see a new game down the shelf for less than a torn up used game. Weird.

My main gripe with Gamestop is that they have to check for I.D. EVERY DAMN TIME you buy anything.

I understand they're supposed to, but for a Mass Effect strategy guide?

Wow...you sound like my friend who used to sell five year old games to GameStop and get pissed off when he only got like 10 bucks for it. Point is, you don't like the deal, don't go for it.
