-This award is not for the best game out there but for the game with the most newest, smart, coolest, innovation:

I think the most innovative game for Xbox 360 this year would have to go to Assassin's Creed. It may not be the best game but one thing that makes it stand out is the incredible climbing aspect. To be able to climb 'easily' on any kind of ledge and actually being able to explore whole cities (not just backdrop) is really a new sort of feat I haven't seen yet in games. The only thing coming close to this was Prince of Persia but even that is far off.

Other games that were really innovative: Bioshock (immersive enviorment, and elemental interactions ), Viva Pinata (Sims Garden!), and some others I can't think of atm.

what's your most innovative game of the year?

I have to disagree. Don't get me wrong, AC had some innovative elements and is worthy of mention when we're discussing the most innovative games of the year. But the actual award for the most innovative game this year had to go to Mass Effect for the way it seamlessly incorporated both RPG gameplay and Shooter gameplay into a single, incredible offering. Mass Effect is the future for both the shooter and the rpg genre.

mass effect wasnt innovative, it was a kotor clone, AC wasnt innovative either (the climbing in it has been done many times before...with much easier controls....i.e. tomb raider....) dont get me wrong graphically both games are wonderful...and storywise, it doesnt get much better than mass effect but neither are innovative.

rock band would probably be the closest to innovative due to the drums (and able to play all 4 instruments together)but its a clone of guitar hero

not many really innovative games have been coming out....most are rehashes of tried and true games, just with better storys, graphics and gameplay....

Mass Effect had a very innovative speech branch that we've never seen before and actually an RPG with some decent third-person gun fights, nothing like KOTOR, though the theme was similar.

Assassin's Creed, you could explore and climb EVERYTHING, in Tomb Raider you could only climb certain obvious objects and was all very linear.

And yea, Rock Band was farley innovative too with group playing and the tone sensor in the mic was farley cool.

My complaint about AC is that where he can climb is pretty obvious, admittedly it IS a step up from the Tomb Raider series but highly similar.

Don't yell at me for this, but I think it might be Halo 3-I'm not a fanboy- because of the fantastic Theatre inovation, plus it also had Forge which no shooter-that I know of- has. I also give my props too.....

Assassin's Creed: few games now-a-days dare to venture away from a shooter, but AC did and it was very good with the easy to do climbing and the ability to explore a city, however, much it tried to keep you on track, itwas just great.

Call of Duty 4: No this is not the most innovative game of the year, but it is the first shooter to allow you to create your own class with your own special abilities-the perks.

ANDTHE MOST INNOVATIVE GAME OF 2007!

The Orange Box: Portal is extremely innovative, it is the first next-gen puzzle game and it's fantastic physics and mind bending puzzles are to be marveled at, It is possibly the most innovative game of the year alone, but The Orange Boxalso is very strange in the fact that it is five games in one, no other game-or game's- has ever done that. This is the most innovative game of 2007.

Forge = Built-in modding kit.

For just mentioning COD4 you get a slap. You obviously haven't played many shooters on the market. Battlefield anyone?

portal by far. no way can mass effect, ac or any other game be called innovative in comparison. its an amazing first-person puzzle experience that bends how you think about things. it bring different dimensions into play, quite literally. not only that, it plays on weight, speed, and all that jazz. furthermore, it was funny... genuinely funny. thats rare today.

its interesting to say the orange box is innovative. the point that its so much quality for the price of one is a really, really good point. in todays market, that is the strangest thing - to see 5 quality titles at a standard price.

Actually I have not played that many shooters-or games for that matter- I have never played Battlefield-sadly-and I just got into online shooters early last year and have not had enough time-or money-to play alot of shooters online, but now that is all I play. : )

Yeah pretty much I would say Portal aswell. But in second place I would say Bioshock. the enviroment and feel of the whole world is just awestriking. And da feel of actually BEING dat person inside Rapture and trying to survive for urself and not trying to SAVE da WORLD but get DA HELL OUT is great. New taste to the shooting genre

Its easily Portal. Its a completely new type of game. There's nothing even close to being like it. All the other games mentioned are just tweaks on a certain genre.

Halo 3 - Theater, screenshots and Forge toolset.

I'd also give a vote to BioShock for it's unique campaign.

What's so innovative about Bioshock? It's a fps!!

I can't pick one game that's more innovative than another so I'll list for the genre.

Action/adventure - Assassin's Creed

Action rpg - Mass Effect

Music - Rock Band

Racing and sports games didn't really change on the 360.

.....uuuh has anyone mentioned the fact that you could also climb (even taller) buidings just as easily in Crackdown, actually it might have been easier as you could jump up ledges etc. Why wasnt Crackdown considered such an innovative marvel ?

TeeBeenz all you have done is critisize other peoples IGOTY, it is from there prospective not yours. Also how is portal not the most inovative game of the year? What was more inovative? Bioshock? GRAW 2? I thought not. But to explain yourself why not tell us what the real most inovative game of the year is?

AC? Innovative?! hahaha!

And then the next poster goes on to say mass effect?!?! LOL. Hell no. Those two games are anything BUT innovative.

skate. that game brought something new to the table, and i'm damn proud to say it. and you can't argue with this, either. There's nothing quite like skate.

This award should go to either skate. or Portal. Nuff said.

The point is innovative game play. If you're giving the prize to Halo for that, then Dead or Alive 4 has a theatre and screenshot mode, yay! DOA4 is the most innovative game! Geez...

Portal is by far the most innovative game on the 360 and PS3 this year. They took the familiar FPS concept and made it entirely different.

i think rock band because all the new instruments. ac is kind of like prince of persia, but that had a better climing system. i like AC, but it doesn't innovate too mcuh.
