Did anyone see the video with some of the new features coming with the dash update? I like the fact that they are merging Xbox Live friends list with MSN Messenger as that is all I use. Link

I hadn't seen it yet. That's some pretty cool stuff. But honestly I was expecting they'de do more. I'm not mad in any way if they don't because I think the service is already really good, but I am kind of surprised that the video only showed like 4 changes.
Thanks.Â

[QUOTE="rgsniper1"]All of the updates only made a couple of changes. I think this is the best one yet: MSN messenger = amazing idea. Being able to have the system shut down after downloads = even better idea. Now I do not have to worry about leaving it on when I sleep to DL a large file. I am pretty sure there is more. Major Nelson already said there will be a change to the "play gane' option. It will now show the name of the game in the drive so I am sure there are more updates. I have no clue where that video came from.I hadn't seen it yet. That's some pretty cool stuff. But honestly I was expecting they'de do more. yeah that's what i was about to say.
Yeah messenger being added is a very cool "novelty" feature I think. Honestly, I can see many reasons why it's not that amazing.
1. Not everyone wears out there DVD drive wathing movies on the 360. Most have a 100.00 dollar DVD player right next to the 360 i'm betting. So you more than likely wont be watching movies and chatting.
2. If you're playing a game do you really want to stop and chat? I mean I can see you in a online gears of war match and saying "please no one shoot me I have to respond to my aunt millie". More than likely the people you're going to want to talk to are those that are playing and you already have access to them anyways (including with voice).
3. If you have a MSN account then you more than likely have a computer. And if you're on live you have an internet connection. So to just chat what are you going to use? a computer with a mouse and keyboard or your controller?
Honestly I like it and think it's neat. But how much use you're going to get out of it. I have my doubts.
Â
edit.. When you can connect with MSN with video and voice I can see it being really worth it as someone like me can have my son talk to his grandparents across the coutry without having to plop him down in front of a PC. Or for some "other" people to show the unspoken body parts to non gaming people I guess. Or maybe when and if you have IPtv and can use it then, that would be cool.

No they explicatly said that they are adding "basic text chat", and that other features like video and voice might be in the works. Which means to me that they are launching basic text and will work to see if the other stuff can be intigrated at a later time. Watch the video again.Â
well I kinda think this all sounds pretty kool... and this'll sound weird but Im maily excited about the thing that'll show what games in the drive because Im tired of when I'll get all comfortable and realize my bro has changed the disk then I have to go back to the menu get bak up and switch em... I meen it only takes a few seconds but it gets old..... I do have to agree with what alot of people have said about messenger on the 360 though... it'll be a nice thing to try once or twice maby but who wants to type with the freekin controller when they can walk a few steps and use those always handy little tools.. the mouse and keyboard

all i really want to see is an optional web browser and more video format support. anything else is just a bonus

MSN Messenger joining the 360 would be like the 360 getting a web browser (except a web browser would be better). First off i hate sending text messages on cell phones. Now using the 360 controller has a keyboard is about 3x worse than a damn cell phone. I mean it would be nice to see who is online, but i would rather not get a keyboard compatible with the 360 just to talk easier on MSN.
Another reason why MSN would be like a web browser is. I would never use it. My 360 is like twenty steps away from my PC (which is always on). By the time a send the sentence "What is up" over the 360 i could have been at my PC and probably typed the next sentence too.
It isn't a bad idea, but i would rather see them focus on other things... hmm what kind of things... well i don't know maby things like what everyone has said from the launch of the 360........... GROUP CHAT!!!
