A person's top 6 will vary from person to person because we all have different tastes and there are just TOO MANY games for me to suggest only six. Anyway off the top of my head in no particular order...
Crysis 2 (Beautiful graphics with a fun SP campaign)
Halo franchise (Start with Halo anniversary-- Awesome HD remake of Halo 1 which was releasd on the first xbox in 2001)
Alan Wake
Left 4 Dead 1 and 2
Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts (Eye candy!)
Rayman Origins (Even more eye candy :)
Bioshock 1 and 2
Red Dead Redemption
Gears of War franchise
Viva Pinata
There are just too many that I know I left out and I didn't even tell you about Xbox Live Arcade.
Halo Reach(#1 must have)
Halo 3
Gears of War
Left 4 Dead
Sonic Generations (Only if you're a big Sonic fan. The game is best enjoyed my Sonic fans)
Alan Wake
Skyrim
Borderlands
Bayonetta
Splatterhouse
Dead Rising
MK 9
Lost odissey
Dark Souls
Batman AA
Assasins Creed 1 - 4
Dead Space 1 & 2
Red Read Redemption
Bioshock 1
You can choose 6 from the list, those are the games I had a blast with this gen.
Borderlands, Batman Arkham City, Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising, Viva PinataCodingGeniusA nice list you got there.
Since Xbox 360 is 6 years old. I might suggest that you buy the Xbox 360 game of the year for the past 6 years. Since you are new to Xbox 360 and what to learn from a aspiring game developers/programers point of view. Game of the year 2006,2007,2008,2009,2010,2011.
You would be getting 6 of the best games for Xbox 360. At the very least. If you want to learn/experience what makes for a great game on Xbox 360.
If you have a gaming PC, you don't need a PS3 nor a Wii. The PC/360 combination is the best.
The only thing you got right in that list was Arkham City and Uncharted 2Why are you buying all of this may I ask??? I would get either a PS3 for exclusives or a Xbox for MP...
Must have games: Halo 3, Uncharted 2, Batman Arkam city, Skyrim, Fallout 3, GOW 3 or 2

The only thing you got right in that list was Arkham City and Uncharted 2...you my friend have to look at more games! I named a few games that would start off this persons adventure with some good solid games...[QUOTE="soapman72"]

original xbox: fable and halo. 360: elder scrolls oblivion/skyrim, bioshock 1 and 2, red dead redemption, and other fable games if you enjoied the 1st (the 1st is the best though)
Try to go for exclusive Xbox 360 games than multiplat games ( For multiplats go for PC version and followed by PS 3 / Wii individual exclusives ) . You can't go wrong with either of the exclusive Xbox 360 games i'm listing ...
1. FPS - Halo 3 / Halo ODST / Halo Reach / Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary .
Perfect Dark Zero
2. TPS - Gears of War 1 / 2 / 3
Saints Row The First
Crackdown
3. Racing - Forza 2 / 3 / 4
Project Gotham Racing 3 & 4
Burnout Revenge HD
4. rpg - Fable II / Fable III
5. Survival Horror - Alan Wake , Dead Rising I
6. console only multiplats as Dark Souls , Red Dead Redemption ETC .
These aren't necessarily the six best games on 360, but they will give you a well-rounded sense of what the console can offer. They are also some of the most popular overall, giving you a chance to try out all of the different multiplayer styles that the console allows.
Gears of War (exclusive mature third-person shooter)
Halo 3 (exclusive sci-fi first-person shooter, suitable for many ages)
Forza Motorsport 4 (exclusive driving simulator)
Grand Theft Auto IV (mature open-world action adventure)
Burnout Paradise (open-world arcade racing)
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (legendary multiplayer shooter) (or swap for a sports game such as FIFA/ Madden if you'd rather not have 2 FPS titles)
Crysis HD
Resident Evil 4 HD
Saints Row The Third
Kameo
Rage
Dead Island
sukraj
RAGE??? Really? That game was crap! Crap on a stick! and the stick is broken, and made of STD infected glass! Why would you want ANYONE to play that!? Oh. wait. You also suggest Dead Island. You either are the greatest troll ever, or your taste is just that bad. Sorry.
My list? While the second half of my list can be filled by pretty much anything BUT dead island and rage, the top three are by far the most important.
1 Skyrim - while it's not as good as it is on the PC, it's still the better of the consoles.
2 Mass Effect 2(and 1) - One of the best RPG style games ever. Blows dragonage back to the dark ages.
3 Left 4 Dead 2 - The first one was great, but the second one is better, and if you're going to have an xbox, you gotta get an exclusive.
Alan Wake
Bioshock 1 and Bioshock 2
Gears of War 3,2,and 1
Assasins Creed 2 and Assassins Creed 1
Mass Effect 2 and 1
Red Dead Redemption
Hey guys, amazing suggestions!
Some suggested i dont need these consoles if I have a gaming PC. The truth is I do have a monster of a system: 16 GB DDR3 RAM, Dual GTX 580 SLi, and Core i7 cpu. However, I cant undertand the limitations of a console because of that. I love gaming, but this is an experiment for me too. Its costing an outragious amount of money for me, all supposdly coming out of my college funds. Quite irresponsible, I know. But I always wanted to own all three consoles without any bias. There is a plus side to it though... my twin sister likes PS3, I'm growing to love XBOX, and mom is sold on Wii and always wanted it. End result, there will be something for everyone I guess!!
I'm going through all your reccomendations, and loving it so far. Hard to narrow down the list but getting there. Keep the suggestions going if you'd like I'll post what I decided on when I have finalized the list so you'll know :)
