I don't understand why players get upset with camping. I think it is a smart strategy especially when a situation calls for it. Isn't it all about adaptation? Personally I think players haven't figured out a way to deal with campers and that is why they get upset. Perhaps a class change from akimbo shotguns? Last time I checked, the only person who survived a wreckless abandon tactic was Rambo, Chuck Norris, Kevin Federline etc.

Bottom line:

Learn, Adapt, Play. Have fun... it's a game.

Thoughts?

Camping is completely legitimate. I didn't know games were fun sitting in a corner picking off people who have no possibility of shotting you before you shoot them, especially behind those borders where you just see the peak of their heads and the campers can see you fully.

The hypocritical part is that campers get pissed about people using Marathon/Lightweight. Sorry, no nuke for you this match.

Camping is for people who don't want to win, that's it

There's living life and there's surviving. People who go out and play games by going in harm's way and working towards a goal are people who live

People who camp out just care about surviving

Now if this was real life then yeah, survive all you want but in a game? No

The idea that someone doesn't play the game but cowers in a corner just to stay untouched for a few more mins is wrong

I only play with people who want to win, not those who are complacent enough to just be happy sitting in a game doing nothing

right... so your advice to others is to play and have fun? Camping is a stat building activity. It's done by those who don't want to die, but know they will because they suck hefty amounts of ass. So, instead of playing the game and just accepting the stats they rightly deserve, they camp in an effort to stat build, which is essentially NOT playing the game just for the fun of it. If campers want us to stop complaining and just have fun, I advise they do so first, and stop sitting in corners just to keep a high K/D ratio.

Camping doesn't bother me, except where people will sit in 1 spot just to get 1 kill in a game... Atleast go to a popular spot. Like you know what I mean, when thoes people go in a spot that noyone would go, because the spot is so dumb you'll only get 1-2 kills per game?

In deathmatch, I believe your objective is to have more kills than deaths giving your team a + score. Headquarters, you have to defend objectives. I am just saying camping is a legit strategy. Don't use it all the time but use it when it benefits the team. I don't agree that people who camp playh for themselves. I don't when I camp.

LOL. the fact that you put "legit" in the topic Title just proves it isnt. If MOST people think camping is cheap, then it probably is. all online multiplayer games have campers. its just the way it is. but its not really "strategy". its called being lazy and just sniping from 1 spot for a long time. not a big fan, but thats just how it goes. and there are snipers in real life too that just camp out to get a few kills i guess.

Thats kinda like saying if I wrote "Itook a stinky crap" it's not stinky becauseIwrote that it was... not popular = not legit. I don't agree. Do i think camping can be cheap? yes (spawn killing). Do I think it can be lazy? well it's pretty easy to do. I just think it's okay to do especially when you are helping out your team. I personally think campers are easy to kill so I don't know why it is a problem. Adapt to the gameplay of your opponents. Shouldn't be a big ordeal in my opinion.

There's always a way to defeat camping. Most COD players resort to blindly charging in the wide open screaming into their mikes.

Spawn camping however is not legitimate and I cringe everytime I get put onto Rust.

For the most part, it is a legit strategy. But I'll admit that it does get annoying when you get killed by the same guy from the same spot continuously. But that's why you adapt. Learn where he is and kill the bastard. Take advantage of the kill cams!

Spawn camping is entirely different, and yeah I do dislike that map at times. But camping in itself is a good strategy, but only if you're in the right place to grab kills and help your team.

yup as some have already said it is legit its not like your cheating but if thats how you play the game its quite sad really. What fun can you really be getting out of sitting in one spot just waiting for someone to walk by. absolutely no skill is involved in it and no one will care about the K/D ratio your itching to brag about.

why does everyone b**** about campers (not that I am one)in MW2 its one of the few games that has killcam so anybody with half a brain cell should be able to sort it out.

And one more thing this noob tube thing (which I do use) why should I run into a building when I know an enemy is on the top floor camping protected by claymores when I can fire the grenade in there to sort he/she out.

JUST PLAY THE GAME and if you keep getting killed time to learn some new skills.

true, but charging a heavily guarded objective, maybe taking out one guy then being shot by 3 other guys is hardly a good strategy either and eventually ends up with you getting frustrated and leaving. IMO you need to find a good balance. I'll move to a location, scope it out, and if people continue running through my line of vision to attack an objective or something, then yeah I'm gonna stay there. But if I'm only getting one or two people every few minutes I'd rather keep moving and stay with the action.

This is why I like bad company 2, both "camping" and doing recon (identifying targets for your teammates) and also rushing the objectives are both equally rewarding.

There isn't a wrong way to play MW2. If the game/map allows camping... so be it. Taking advantage of the kill cam feature is great way to force a camper out of his "comfort zone".

Camping really depends on how experienced of a player you are. If you have just got a game like MW 2 and never played it before, then camping, may really be the only thing that you know how to do, and the only thing that possibly will work for you. On the other hand, if you have lots of experience with a game and you still camp then it really does just matter on if that is what you have fun doing, not if it makes other people pissed off.

Depends on the gametype. I'll play sabotage and there will be games were everyone just camps for kills and completely ignores the fact that the bomb has been planted and our team needs to ensure it doesn't get defused. That makes me much madder than anyone camping. If you want to farm kills, play TDM, don't play objective games when you won't work for the objective.

It really depends on the game mode. In modes like demolition, domination, and headquarters it's not only a strategy, it's almost borderline necessity if you want to win. Some of the other modes(free-for-all especially) camping is no more than a nuisance. Like others have said too, spawn campers have no place in gaming. They aren't as bad as glitchers or hackers, but they rank right up there.

Its good if you know where the popular spots are. In my opinion I'd rather have teammates that camp and get kills than have people just run around and get killed.

I don't know if you can consider camping a strategy when you consider what would happen if everyone did it - nothing for 10 minutes. I think any other strategy would result in an actual game, even if everyone did it.

It turns a FPS into a point and click adventure game.

There are two kinds of camping. Legitimate camping and **** camping. Legitimate camping is something along the lines of a sniper staying in the same spot for the whole game (I mean, what is he gonna do? Run around and try to kill people with his secondary?) or or if you're in an accessible area (like the roofs of the buildings on Favela) or if your are protecting a capture point or something of the like. **** camping is when you sit around a corner, where you can't be shot from any angle, with a shotty or close range weapon the entire game and shoot people as they walk around the corner or through a door. The former is fine. The latter is a cheap tactic used by people who can't get any kills otherwise.

Putting aside the camping, doesn't EVERYONE play sabotage to get a bunch of kills? I don't think I've ever met anyone who plays sabotage because they want to fight over planting the bomb.

my thoughts exactly. i guess fun goes out the window when you play any competitive MP over live :?

its alwyas legit to pick off noobs one-by-one

PsYcHo_BrOwNiE

what precisely makes a person a noob for walking around a corner after they spawn, only to get shot in the back by some guy camping a corner with akimbo 87's? i understand if people who just started playing do it. but any one besides a sniper camping is just bad. often a guy thats right in front of me will miss even tho he lined up his shot and started shooting at me 1st. later i figure out it was the guy camping..hum no wonder campers cant shoot straight and can only kill people when there not looking. plane and simple.

EDIT-this ^ applies to TDM game types in any game. not objective based game types. then its ok to camp if your defending, or sniping :P

sure, if you want to camp thats fine with me, but i think it defeats the whole aspect of having fun. Fun to me is running around frantically and killing lots of people. I dont think infinity ward is a big fan of campers. I mean, we have kill cam. And once we know where you are, we will find you, and kill you. So have fun sitting your ass in one spot

This, this is a run n gun shooter after all, and as long as you're good, you can get killstreaks easily.

I hate camping, it's boring IMO.

Thoughts?

jad206

Yes, it's a game. I buy games to PLAY. not sit in a corner and wait 20 seconds waiting for someone to run by. Sure it's a "legit" strategy, but so is noob-tubing across that map. That's gay isn't it? I think your just a camper and thats why your defending them. Not good enough at the game? Campers are the bane of enjoyment, and for you to defend them means your either a camper, or done right dumb.

I use whatever strategy works for the match. If I am a sniper... I am probably not gonna move much. Speaking of dumb... it's "down right" I believe. How about a Fresca? and I buy games to kiss them and not have fun.

Agreed. Camping gets boring after awhile. I only do it when it involves defending an objective (flag, etc.) or an area where all the action is.

Campers never bother me it's when I'm in a game full of people that get slaughtered by campers that bothers me. If someone is camping please don't run directly into their line of sight and if you do it please don't continue doing it.. I don't camp in one spot but I do use cover to my advantage. I don't run in the middle of the open to get my *** kicked.

camping is legit. They are easy to kill because they have the same rooms or areas they stay in. You have the advantage of being able to sneak up on them and if you watch the replay of your death you can see what weapons and perks they have. Use your brain, if your dying lots from a camper(s), change your class to something that will beat that one player- perhaps you an snipe him, or throw a grenade in the room, or noob tube a grenade at the ceiling of the room he is in from below, use a gun with more range. If you are so good at running around, a slight detour to demolish a few campers during your rampage should be easy. Either he will leave because you're killing him lots or you will get lots of kills. camping is a good way to get kill streaks except people will know where you are. adapt your play to the opponents in your game and you have a good chance of winning.
