My 360 sometimes sounds like it's scratching the disc. Is this normal?

Sometimes when a game starts spinning in the drive or stops spinning it makes a weird sound like it's scratching. Is this normal? The games look fine and are not damaged, but the sound is horrible even though it only lasts for a couple seconds it sounds like the console is about to die

Should I be worried that my 360 is going to be bricked or is this just a byproduct of a cheaply made console adn I shouldn't worry about it breaking?

Is it kind of like buzzing? I had this problem just a few minutes ago with Halo 3. I took the disc out and checked it, and it was fine and I restarted my system and its fine now. Im at the part where it started and its fine.

Use some canned air and blow it out... I had this happen on and off for a few months before my drive imploded.

It seems to be certain drives. My old 360 had a Hitachi and it made that noise when I went back to the dashboard from playing a game, and the game spun down. Also Oblivion used to make a noise at all times when playing the game. None of my games have ever been scratched up by it. The new 360 I have has a benq drive and it makes no noises at all. Even with Oblivion in it. Another thing it could be is if there was a screw loose inside the case and the vibration caused by the disc was causing two pieces of metal to vibrate against each other. I've had situations like that with computers.

Yup. Only certain games and only when it starts or stops spinning. I'm just pissed because I bought the 360 NEW at k-mart in November but it had a manufactured date of June 2006 and I don't want it to be broken.

My 360 also makes a kind of a buzzing noise sometimes, but it sounds the same as PC-drives so I'm not really worried about that.

What I have been meaning to ask for a long time is, everytime I turn on my 360 it makes this odd noise for 3 times. It does it literally everytime and the 3 screeks come one after another like clockwork. Is it normal? Do you guys have any sounds when you turn it on? I think it is the disc-drive or the fans "waking up", because if I turn off my 360 while it's charging the controller and then turn it back on, it doesn't make the sounds. While it is charging, the fans and the drive(?) are still running so they don't need to "wake up", and hence no sound then.

Ya I usually wonder what that noise is also when I first turn on my 360 it makes this grrr grrr noise and then when I put in a disc and close the tray it makes one grrr noise. At first I thought I had purchased another wierd 360 but after coming to these forums I learned that other people hear that noise too so I told myself it's normal and moved on.

Mine makes the same noise. It's the disc drive trying to read a disc. If you leave a disc in the drive and turn it off I don't think it makes that noise.
