Do you have any concept of how the 360 works? If he has an actual early copy of the game, it makes absolutely no difference whether the console is online, offline, plugged into an eathernet port, whatever, the achievement system works without any of that.

There is no such thing as an achievement lock or any of this crap that people who claim they have a game early use to explain why they don't or can't get acheivements. Your friend is full of complete **** and your as gullible as they come, or just a jerk trying to start some crap.

Yeah had a friend who got Halo 3 early and got plenty of achievements. And it's definitely the bonus disc.

the gamercard tells da truth. achievements dont get locked pre-release. my mate got halo 3 only 1 week early and i knar a few lads who got orange box early (coz it was copies downloaded) and the achievements worked properly. just ya cudnt really get any games going online, me mate said it was like 5 people playing online on halo and rock to get a game he was gutted haha. wud be a downer that coming home thinking multiplayer h3 sesh, be first on and then only 5 other people online and cudnt get a game on da go haha. he said he cud see his dot in the uk on da map as well harldy even lit up. i got it at midnight in uk and by time i got home and finished my quake sesh was about 3am and was only 491 people on, always remember that coz next day was over a million
