Hey all, I know this has been done many times before, but I've been wanting to show off my setup since I got it finished!

I'm using an Optoma EP 1690 Widescreen HD Projector, Onkyo TX-SR804 THX 7.1 Receiver, Polk and Pioneer Speakers w/ Polk Subwoofer, Comcast HD DVR, PS3 60 GB, Premium Xbox 360 w/ 120 GB Harddrive and Wii. PS3 runs at 1080p through HDMI and Xbox runs at 1080i through component. The Wii runs at 480p through component and isn't really used all that much. More for my young Nieces and their friends. Would love to hear some comments.

How's the graphical quality? I would be concerned of a blurry or less sharp images with projectors.

true. people underestimate the power of a HD projector. it's MUCH better than the big plasma's and LCd's.

the immersion is enourmes. sweat set up dude!!! i have a panasonic 900, but and all consoles, but even i'm a little bit jrealous here.

since most games are in 720P, do you play them in 720P or in 1080P?

edit: does it have hdmi inputs and component cable inputs??

This particular projector does not have HDMI or Component, but does have DVI-D. But because the Receiver I have does Component upconvert through HDMI, I simply run one HDMI to DVI cable from the receiver to the Projector. On the 360 I run it at 1080i (Did the comparisons and honestly liked the look of 1080i over 720p, even though the projector is 720 native) And the PS3, I keep it at 1080p, but the PS3 changes the output to whatever the game or format best suits the medium And my Projector switches itself to whatever it is.

Sorry checking other posts as well. The projector cost me $1500, but I added a 4 year warranty through circuit city so the total cost went up to around $1800.

okay, thanks! but i think if the projector is 720P native, it's better to play games at 720P. the progressive scan is just better..

the price is very attractive for a full Hd projector. is it LCD ort DLP?

I expect to get 1.5-2 years of lamp life out of it. Well, the good thing I found out with my warranty through circuit city is that all I have to do is bring it in if it has a problem (and when the blub goes, I'll make up an excuse) and they'll replace the entire unit for free (just adding the warranty on again pro-rated). Normally bulbs go for $400 and have at leasta 2000-3000 hour life expectancy.

The colors in this photo do look a little washed out, but thats more of thecamera's fault.Admittedly, it's not perfect (but then again I haven't messed with tuning the colors either). But in person, the colors look good enough to where it isn't a problem.

Projector is DLP. And I thought it would look better in Native as well, but I did visual comparisons and honestly, I enjoy the crispness of the 1080i/p over the 720, even though it's up-converting.

That sucks, so you cant go with DLP because you see the "rainbow" I've heard of that, but thankfully do not experience it myself.

As for total cost..... LOL, well....... it was a lot, if you factor in the cost of EVERYTHING that makes up the setup. I'd say a rough estimate would be between $6000-$7000

And regarding FPS's their's nothing like sitting infront of a screen where your entire vision is taken up by what you're playing. For me personally, it's perfect, as I don't have to turn my head to see anything going on in the screen. It's just a flick of the eyes and I take in everything. Also no straining to see reticules or aiming sights. Just makes everything so much easier and enjoyable. Hell, playing Guitar Hero is even easier on the big screen!

Just thought i'd mention, the reason is looks better in 1080i than 720p is because of the size of the screen.

Well, not rich (but I do have credit cards!) LOL. And that Halo Image is just something that xbox live had up at the time. That image changes depending on what MS wants to advertise.

did you ever concider a good projection screen?. a wall is good, but the screens are made to make the image better. a wall usually asorbs too much or reflects too much.

Nice set-up by the way. I'm going to wait a year or so until 1080p projects drop a grand or so then pick one up. Good choice on the receiver too.

I did, when I was in my old place I wanted to do a screen. But the guy who owned the house is a auto body painter and wanted to paint it himself. Through trial and error we found the perfect paint to give us the performance of a screen without reflecting too much or absorbing too much light. Maybe the image would look a little better with a screen. But honestly, for the cost and the aesthetics, a screen just isn't worth it, to me.

Yeah, waiting for the 1080ps to drop is a good idea. But make sure when you do purchase you get something with a good Lumen output. Or else you'll have to have a dedicated home theater room with no ambient light if it doesn't have a medium to high lumen output.

And yes, I'm 26 living in my own house with my Fiancee. We both have our careers (She's a Nurse and I'm a Firefighter) so we can afford to splurge a little here and there. Home entertainment and video gaming is my thing and for her..... it's purses! LOL

Because even though the projector is 720p native, I've found through experimentation that the picture (Still and in Motion) looks more crisp and clear in 1080i than it does in 720. And I can't do 1080p with the Premium (Launch Console), so I'll have to wait until I buy the Elite (But I'm waiting until I can guarantee that i'll get one with the 65nm chip)

Hey I've got the same setup, except I also went out and bought a screen for it, you need a screen man, otherwise you won't be getting the right levels of white, and the projector screens are made from special materials which reflect the light back towards you - simply putting it on a wall won't give you the best result - I was amazed when I put my new screen up at the amazing difference in clarity.

I do enjoy my HD Projector (Panasonic PTAX100U on 106" Greyscale screen) . Can't be beat when playing Madden. I do prefer my Sharp Aquos when playing games in general. Projector are great but have some quirks. 1) They get hot. 2) Organization is backwards. This is just personal preference. A dedicated theater room is perfect and solves this so long as you have the throw distance. 3) Has to be in a controlled environment. I like to play games in the light and this can effect the picture. If the lumen output is high not as big of a deal but your always going to get the best picture in a dark room.

As far as organization you have the Projector in back because it obviously projects, generally, as far as entertainment equipment they need to be in back as well unless you want to have really long cables. e.g. Receiver, Systems exc. all need to be close to the Projector itself. Obviously you can work around this but dedicated space is required. Again,I have have a home theater room and it is nice. Generally with all the equipment at the rear it is backwards. I still preferaLCD for the bulk of gaming.

As far as light is concerned, it is just a quirk. Again,a person needs dedicated space for a home theater room. A Dark area for optimal viewing is necessary. How old are you? Its not about being afraid of the dark. Just not everyone is a kid or a teenager. I have adaughter who is a little over 2 years old. She loves torun. Kids and dark rooms can spell disaster.

No offense to anyone, I haven't seen the new Optoma's, but my Panny isn't even close to the same league as my Sharp as far as image quality when both are optimized (I have had 3 projectors. Started with the Optoma H30 or 31 some time ago.)That said, I love the size and the wow factor of the Projectors. They do look much better then people think. It iskind of a bummer replacing the bulb every few years @ $300ish andcleaning the filtersbut they do rock.

Taijiquan pretty nailed just about EVERYTHING that needed to be said about this. I have a great Toshiba 52HM95 DLP Rear projection TV, but a couple of friends of mine bought projectors. Granted, they spent less than a thousand for theirs (TRUE 1080p projectors start at $2700; Google Optoma HD80), but they have BIG screens. Unfortunately, they don't have the proper distance and it does hurt your eyes after a while. Also their color contrast just can't compare to my TV, thus their picture isn't quite as good. Add all of the things Taijiquan noted and the reality is that its not for everyone.

It's definitely true that projectors are not for everyone. I just happen to have 15 feet of throw for my projector, which gives off 126 inches of pure HD goodness. And after getting used to the projector, I just can't go back to gaming on a regular sized tv again. My old one was a 37'' HD LCD TV

Sorry checking other posts as well. The projector cost me $1500, but I added a 4 year warranty through circuit city so the total cost went up to around $1800.

[QUOTE="johncraven"]why are you running the 360 on 1080i?ChickenHawk07

Because even though the projector is 720p native, I've found through experimentation that the picture (Still and in Motion) looks more crisp and clear in 1080i than it does in 720. And I can't do 1080p with the Premium (Launch Console), so I'll have to wait until I buy the Elite (But I'm waiting until I can guarantee that i'll get one with the 65nm chip)

I run 1080p with a premium through components.

Depends on the TV or Video Source. Some TVs will do it. My projector won't unless it's HDMI.

Thank you everyone for your compliments :D
