ok

1.) Keep your 360 well ventilated!!! Give it at least 1 metre of space all round especially at the back as this is where most of the heat is vented!!!

2.) Don't place things on your 360 for example DVD players or other consoles...........just don't place anything on it and don't place your 360 on anything else!!! Just place it on a nice hard flat surface!!!

3.) Don't stand your 360 up as it has been clearly stated that there is more of a chance that your 360 will scratch disc's standing up!!! lay it down!!!

4.) Also dont place your 360 near TV's or surround sound system's as the noise will vibrate your console more and this can cause the disc to scratch or damage the console!!!

5.) And keep your power pack well ventilated also!!!

6.) And place your 360 i nice hard flat surface but not on the floor!!!

Hope this helps;)

Sorry to be an ass BUT I've had my console since June 2006 and:

1) 1 metre of space all around it!? Do you realize how much 1 metre actually is? I've never had one metre of space around mine

2) That's understandable

3)I had mine standing for like 7 months and didn't have one damaged disk

4) My 360 has a small speaker on it, and a subwoofer under it and notihng has gone wrong

And the other two I agree with though

I can understand the dusting and stuff but moving around? You can move it around... I move mine around a lot and it has yet to explode.

--takes tape measure...measures 1 metre-- Yeah... not gonna happen. Right now, it's got 45 CM's at the back and about 30 CM's on the sides... (I've gone all metric) Played "Biggest game of the year" for 14.5 hours non stop and have not had a red light problem.

The red light thing is completely random and for the majority, people take care of their 360. It's an expensive product at the end of the day.

my comp never turned on becuase of the heat(i think) but when i took the cover off and placed a fan to fan the entire thing(hard drive-cd-drive-memory-all of its cards) it worked perfectly.

so my question is.....can you open up the 360 and make it function correctly(with cover off) this is something i wondered ever since i had the prob and was in the market for a 360?

Simply just play 1-2 hours and shut down your Xbox for 0.5-1 hours to cool it down and give sometime for the processor to rest. Give a plenty of space for the back of the console because that is the part where it throws out all of the heat out.

lol a bet loads dont sack it off after a hour or 2 for a hour cool off then play again lol, if ya that worried to play ur xbox maybe u shouldnt of bought one :p

i find that its better than to just put ur xbox ona flat surface to have 6 coca cola pop bottle lids under neath, like the type u get off 2 litlre plastic bottles of pop. 4 under the the rubber legs, and 2 more in between in the middle for extra support,. so adds to the ventalation underneath as well. doing this and something similar to support the power brick slightly raised so it can ventalate all around it does the trick and has got rid any daft crashes i used to get. and was getting them at least once a day, ow its like one every 1-2 weeks and usualy near the end of a 7 hour sesh, lets face it anything else to help vemntalate it or dodge 3 lights is a bit extreme, some people just neeed to know when to give in even if they have to send they console back for a few weeks

my guide for watching over a 360 is just 1 rule...

1. Don't be a retard.

If you follow that then you should be fine unless it's something unavoidable thanks to MS.

anyone who has to take that much consideration for the "processor", knows MS did a crappy job building it. You should NEVER have to worry about how long you've been playing it sand worry about it overheating (that is unless your a loser who plays 24/7 all day with no breaks). On a day off you really think anyone playing an RPG plays for just 1-2 hours? Most of the time you get lost and play for like 4-7 hours (grabbing food somewhere in between) i'm hardcore w/ rpg's but microsoft just showing us they blow with quality control.

I have a great tip that just brought my 360 back from the brink. My 360 was continually overheating (2 red lights) playing at a maximum of 2 minutes. So i cleaned out the vents with the spray air can dust removers for pc. Not only has it not overheated once (quite a bit of dust came out, and i thought that I kept my area fairly well dusted), but it has played halo 3 for very long periods of time, after only playing for around 10 minutes tops on tuesday.

Meh wouldn't your prefer to get the rrod as then you get a better console when yours is returned under warrenty.

But then again I wouldn't go for it until all systems that they give out are Falcons... Or if your an addict

You can spray some of that cold pc motherboard-cleaning stuff inside the console, that should clear out alot of the dust. It would be better to open up the 360 first, but thats not for noobs.

get a usb laptop cooler it raises the 360, absorbs a lot of the vibrationfrom under neath and it blows cold air in and around the 360.

Actually not turning it on is the worst tip u can give! if u dont turn on ure xbox360 frequently it has a greater chance to stop working! Its like a car! you dont turn it on... the engine is dead....

I've had like 5 red lights of death so far....what do i do? Take the hard drive off and put it back on, take some chords and wiggle them gently along with the system, and then blow in the vents to get dust out. Works every time!!!!
