So I'm not kidding about this. The other day I got home from work and my one and only xbox was on. I thought that was weird and blamed my kids. The next day it was on again and same thing, the Xbox showed controller #1 had turned it on. I got in the little basket where we keep the 4 controllers and none of them are on! I pull all the battery packs out and think that's the end of that. Wrong! Not 10 minutes ago I hear it running again with controller #1 on! I double-check the controllers: no batteries in place!!! I turn it off and 5 minutes later it's back on AGAIN!!!! I think my neighbors kid has an Xbox, but we're not really that close so I can't tell. What gives? Anybody else experience or hear of this? Can I change some settings in the system panel to change the radio frequency or something?

Its automatic possibly, there might be an automatic thing going on and you may have to turn that off.

What are the times they play on the xbox if you do know? If so, then check those times.

Your neighbours are probably messing with you. Is your xbox in a room where they could stand outside the window easily, because they might be standing outside the window, pressing the middle button on their controllers. You can do it with Sky Remotes as well. I'm not sure about Xbox controllers though - but this seems like the most likely cause.

did it just start doing it recently, like in the past few days? there weren't any updates that I saw (unless my kids accepted). We just got Lego SW III The Clone Wars on Sunday, I wonder if there was an auto-update that is buggy. ???

that wont work though.

each controller has to be sync'ed to the 360 before the controller will work with the 360. you have to press the sync button both on the controller and on the console.

so unless the neighbors broke into his house or something and sync'ed their controller to his 360, their controller will not turn his 360 on.

not sure what sky remotes are so this post only pertains to the 360 controller:P

Dont listen to this you have to sinc the controller with the system by pressing a button on the controller and then a button on the system itself, so unless the kids got into your house and did this there is no way they can be turning it os.

yeah, it's not the neighbors. they're the most church-devoted people i've ever met. the father even works at the church. the kid is in his late teens and is always gone since his car is really never there. i've got the same TV and audio peripherals I've had for years. Sometimes my wireless router interferes with the controllers signals, but like i said i took the batteries out and it still turned on and showed controller #1 on. on the xbox, if you push the power on button it boots up the xbox and shows NO controller activated. so there has to be something somewhere!

Sky is a broadcasting company in the U.K. A Skyremote is a remote used by people subscribing to Sky.And sorry that I didn't know about all the syncing businees. It was just a hunch.
