So I had just started up my Xbox to hopefully enjoy a good gaming session with a game I had just recently sunk 26 hours into. So I start up my Xbox and start playing Dragon Age. The icon appears in that disc drive section so I think everything is okay. As soon as I start up the game I get to the screen with the Dragon-Bioware intro and a box pops up saying that the disc is unreadable. I open the tray using the controller and then close it again thinking it was just a one time thing. But it happens again. I take a look at the disc and I see a massive kind of scratch in a perfect circle around the disc. It can't be my fault because I've had the disc in the Xbox for about a week and a half and before that the disc was flawless. I do take good care of my disks and this is beginning to f**k me off. Is there any way without having to contact Microsoft first since I live in New Zealand, could I get the disc repaired or something?

Feedback is much appreciated.

I think you can call microsoft and request a new disc but theres a small charge. Also you might need to send your xbox in if the problem persists. I once had an xbox scratch my call of duty 4 disc and luckily I got the RRoD a few weeks later so that gave me a reason to send it in for a new one.

the same thing happened to my bioshock disc. it was because my 360 was vertical, most probably. try placing it horizontal. my 360's been fine so far. *knocks on wood.*

I dont know why they advertise the Xbox 360 standing vertical. Maybe because it looks "cooler." But it isn't cool at all in reality. It wasn't designed to be standing vertical. The disc tray when vertical cannot hold onto the disc if the system is moved, titled, at a certain angle. Unlike the PS3, the 360 is best in the horizontal position.

Did you move the 360 while it had a disc in it? That could be the main reason.

it did this recently with my copy of FIFA 10. One day it left a huge gash in the disc after saying the disc could not be read. You could always go rent a copy at BlockBuster and swap the discs >.>

I'd call MS and B@%@! over the phone to see what they could do.

That's the problem if u put it verticaly the disc can slip and give it a laser burn. U can get it fixed in the uk by a machine so u may be able to get it done in NZ

I've got to say, I cannot fathom what interior parts the 360 has that would even be capable of breaking a disc. Scratching I can understand, but cracking it? I don't know about that, despite others saying the same thing happened to them. What exactly inside the 360 would be capable of breaking a disc, no matter which way it was standing? I don't see it.

This makes a whole lot more sense to me.

This is a good idea. If only my Blockbuster and Hollywood Video (and as a direct result, Game Crazy) hadn't shut down.. :(

firstly whats actually happened to your disk, in the subject title you say it is cracked yet in your post you say it is scratched?

but if it has a perfect circle scratched around the disk near the centre, then this is your xbox, my brother had the exact problem you describe and when it was sent for repairs microsoft said it was a problem with the laser?

anyway if you dont want to send ur xbox back to be repaired then start installing games you play a lot to the harddrive as this will remove the need for the xbox to be constantly reading the disk for long periods of time, and therefore remove any risk of damage

and to get get your disk fixed, at most game stores they have a machine that can repair scratches

The ring scatch is caused when your x box is vertical and gets knocked over OR when its horizontal and you bump it while running the game.

If it's rings on your disc it's your 360, if your disc center plastic part is cracked it's because you've been constantly removing the disc wrong from the case. Keep in mind to CORRECTLY remove a 360 game from it's case you have to push the push pin in the middle all the way in and then remove the disc. That's the safest way to remove your disc without having this problem or at least minimizing the chances of it happening.

it killed 5 copies of gta iv on me,

my old 360 did ,

not sure if the new ones any better,

it made hairline cracks that eventually spread to where the actual data is ,

on my last copy it literally cracked it in 3 places 2 down the middle and smaller one on the 3 oclock side

near the first crack

and also the 360 puts small fine circles -these dont harm the disc but idont know why they do it ,

to those newbs who say you move the xbox360 ,

no

those are bigger circular scratches ,

the ones im mentioning is hairline so small youd have to look in the light

,, an deventually if it is like mine it willl heat the disc causing the hairline cracks in the fragile sectionof the disc -the center ,

that wont hurt it for a while but as time goes on ,the crack moves much like a chip in the windsheild , you ever have one, well thats kinda like what itll do ,spread until finally it breaks the game completely
