Ok I put my console on last night and it showed 3 red lights :( :( :(. But i turned it off unplugged it all reconnected it, then it worked fine. It Shut off on its own later on, but i have had no problems since. Has this happened to anyone before, Does his mean my Xbox is broken or on the way out. My sytem is only 3 weeks old? Is it possible for the 3 lights to show if a wire isnt connect properly? Any help or comments would be great. Ta

Yes power plug is very important. You can easily see 3 red light if you dont properly plug it in.

If you get 3red lights again, And Dont force the console to Turn on , Wait several minutes then try again. (Then next time wait for a longer time period )

Try without Harddrive and Xbox Live,

IF you can reach the menus you can go to

System - Console Settings - Memory -

Highlight  the HDD the press Y ,

Enter X , X , LB , RB , X , X

then choose YES.

Still problems? Then Call Xbox Customer Service

i think it was just something unplugged, so you have nothing to worry about. if it shut off on its own then that meant it was gonna over heat, so the problems you listed are common. and if the red- lights of death came on it would give you a message stating that your system would need to be repaired

your xbox360 should be okay, if you take care of it well it should work fine. i've taken care of mine for 7 months so far and i've never had one problem out of mine. It hasnt froze or shut off.

yes, the 360 can have the same problems, but it doesnt, becaz M$ doesnt care about its customer care, ps3 does, thats why sony will make M$ and Nintendo go bankrupt

if MS didnt care then why are ppl getting replacement xbox360's then, also before this thread gets any crazier, sony is at the bottom of the sales list for the next-gen era

I had the three red lights and my xbox wouldn't turn on again, so I called customer support once and I sent them my console to be repaired. They sent me a new one within about 5 days - all for free. I think microsoft make up for their slightly faulty consoles with their excellent customer service.

There was one night when I cleaned my 360. I unplugged everything. I used the spray duster and waited for a few hours. When I connected everything and turned it on, I got the 3 redlights. I was scared, but I noticed that the power plug was not connected all the way and when I connected it and turned on the 360 it was fine. Its been fine ever since. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Exchange it or call 18004MYXBOX to get a new one because you have only had it for 3 weeks.  If you didn't connect the cables properly you will get 4 red lights and 3 red lights are the worst it is suppost to indicate you system is dead.  I would get one that has never given me a problem.  You will hate microsoft if you have to buy a new system after the warranty.

I got my 360 april 2006 and it just broke march 2007
i was playing dao extreme 2 and then the screen froze and everythign looked like a pink checker board. then i got the 3 red lights.
so i unplugged it and made sure all the wires were in right because i did get the lights once when i didn't have the video cable hitched up right.
I put the game in and started playing again, and it worked. for 5 minutes till i got some more pink checkers.
i though perhaps it was heating so i waited awhile this time before trying it again, I also tried it with a new game to make sure it wasn't the disc
i tried everything, unplugged it plugged it back in, used different outlets, made sure all the wires were right, took out the hard drive, took out the game. then i got to call 1-800-4myxbox. i though my warranty was only like 3 months so i was bull sh1t, but the guy on the phone was nice and said it was a year warranty. they sent me a box with UPS stickers so i didn't even have to leave my house or pay for shipping to send it to them for repairs.
so i dont know what caused it, if it was cooling or not. I only had the system on for like 20 minutes when it happened and i haven't moved it since i got it. anyways, 2-5 more bussiness til i get mine back! i wanna play the turtles arcade game.
so my point is taht the 3 red lights could be a sign for a soon to be insta-360-console-death, cuz it did in my case.

Warning to all 360 owners stay away from the Nyko intercooler after about 8 months try taking it off. The plastic will melt onto you consoles power conductors, and will keep your console from getting the power it needs to function.

In my experience 3 red lights can also be caused by a power surge, such as lightening striking near by, or a dip in current, such as a brownout. When this happened i simply turned off my xbox and turned it right back on. Also, Ive had oblivion running for 36 hours straight with no freezings.

A Brownout? does that involve the crapper alot of pushing followed by toilet paper to wipe up.

one thing microsoft told me over the phone was that if you got your 360 plugged into a power strip it can mess it up over time and to plug it directly into the wall instead. so perhaps thats why mine crapped the bed.

You have no idea what you are talking about do you? The PS3 has system failure as well. Only difference is you only have a month warranty instead of a year.
