Alright I've had this problem for a couple weeks now:
I have DOA4 and HALO3 to get online with, for the past 3-4 months my connection has been fine.
I've rented COD4 and none of my games have lag or anything that has to do with it.
Yet in these past 2-4 weeks the lag has been horrible to small hiccups that mess up my play (bullet lag).
Here's some specs:
Cable internet (bresnan)
WRT54G (wireless) router
2 meg download and 2-300kb upload. (did a test yesterday so my ISP is giving me enough)
my cord is very long but it shouldn't matter unless there's a kink in it (or something else that could affect it)
360 goes to router as well as my PC and I also play games on the PC with no lag whatsoever.
I have portforwarding and DMZ turned on on my 360 so my NAT is OPEN (but this isn't the case even if it helps)
When I TEST my connection in 360 it passes EVERYTHING I can download stuff no problem and all that jazz.
YET there are some strange conditions: First my status on DOA or HALO3 is fine for the first... 5 min. Then it's a rollercoaster of bad lag and then good connection and then bad lag again.
MIND you I play at 1-3 A.M. so I know it can't be servers especially if I'M HOSTING the game even during mid-day.
I've tried pinging my 360 (which means squat cause it won't let you..) so I don't know if I have packet loss thanks to the long and old cord I have, I've tried static IP address WHICH HELPS but doesn't solve the problem.
I'm at a lost cause my router can't be the culprit when I have hardly changed it in months. Even after the xbox update I played fine on my games but now it's just a pain to play any LIVE game cause of the bullet lag I get.
If anyone has had a similar problem PLEASE let me know because this is driving me nuts when I want to play.
I know it's not the router (I'm going to test hooking the 360 directly to my cable box to see if it is)
It could be the cord so I'm going to buy a new cord to try that out.
I doubt the ISP because it's been fine for a while and the connection we've had hasn't changed. \
So I'm not sure, any help would be great.
